Blizzard is voluntarily waiving money. A service in World of Warcraft, which previously cost euros, will soon be available for gold.
For many years, World of Warcraft has been criticized for locking basic customization features behind a paywall, including the ability to rename guilds. However, this will soon change, as guilds will be able to get a new name without real money costs. How high are the costs?
Renaming a guild will cost 200,000 gold pieces in the future and will probably be possible once a year. You can make the change to all guild masters in the game, which can be found in every major capital. Guards can show you the way everywhere.
Although it was already indirectly possible to rename a guild with gold only by buying WoW Tokens and then exchanging them for Battle.net Credits, the new way is much cheaper and easier.

When will the change come?
The change will take place on April 22, 2025 – for us in Europe on April 23. Therefore, many now suspect that this could also be the release date for patch 11.1.5, as the change to the guild renaming was first found on the PTR of patch 11.1.5.
Officially, the release date for patch 11.1.5 has not yet been confirmed, but perhaps by then all those interested should familiarize themselves with the Horrific Visions as well as the best and worst feature from Battle for Azeroth.
Why is Blizzard doing this?
Exact reasons for this were not given. One theory is that the service was simply not frequently purchased and can therefore be offered more easily in the game.
However, some fans also have the theory that Blizzard is responding to an accusation in the past. This is because if a guild was renamed by a Game Master (for example, because the guild contained offensive words or insults), the guild was then given an automated name such as “Guild of [character name]”. If you wanted to correct this afterwards, you had to put real money on the table or dissolve the guild and found a new one. With a gold renaming, such a correction would now be much easier.
The bottom line is that this is definitely a good change that provides more services in the game without being primarily related to real money prizes. So if you come to the conclusion in the near future that guild names like “XxShadowkillersxX” or “heroes of the lichd” no longer quite correspond to your mental maturity, you can change that more easily.
