Fifteen years is a long time in League of Legends. In fifteen years, the game has added over 100 champions, overhauled its economy twice, rebuilt the jungle five times, and fundamentally redesigned what it means to play the game competitively. In that same span, Shyvana — the Half-Dragon — received almost none of it. Until Patch 26.6.

Why This Rework Matters

Plans for Shyvana’s rework were in place since Riot acknowledged she was not fully delivering on her core theme and fantasy back in 2022. In the 2022 VGU poll, Skarner won the vote, but Shyvana finished a very close second. At the time, Riot admitted she was among champions “not fully delivering on their thematic promise.”

Four years later, the promise has been delivered.

The rework marked Shyvana’s first major overhaul in roughly 15 years. She received a new model, updated visual effects, fresh voice over, and a completely rebuilt kit. The visual update alone transforms her from one of the game’s most visually dated picks into something that feels genuinely modern — the Dragon Form at rank 3 is the kind of spectacle that belongs in a 2026 game.

The New Kit: Ability by Ability

Passive — Scalemail Takedowns against champions, large minions, and monsters grant permanent Armor and Magic Resist stacks. This replaces the passive Fury generation model and directly rewards aggressive, kill-seeking play. Shyvana becomes tankier the more she fights, which synergises cleanly with her Dragon Form fantasy.

Q — Emberstrike Shyvana’s next attack strikes both the target and the surrounding area. This ability can be recast. While in Dragon Form, it gains an additional recast, dealing massive damage to a single target. The recast mechanic is new and adds timing skill to what was previously a passive auto-attack modifier.

W — Inferno Aegis Shyvana gains a shield and movement speed before the area around her detonates. In Dragon Form, the explosion heals her if it hits enemy champions or monsters. The heal in Dragon Form is a significant addition — it solves one of her oldest problems, which was that she had no sustain to show for being in the fight she was built to start.

E — Molten Burst Her E launches a fireball that slows enemies in human form, and in Dragon Form it passes through targets and leaves a burning trail behind. The persistent fire trail opens up zone control that the old Flame Breath never had, particularly useful for cutting off retreats or controlling narrow jungleside chokepoints.

R — Dragon’s Descent Dragon’s Descent still transforms Shyvana into her Dragon Form, but now it also fears enemies along her path and makes her basic abilities stronger. The fear is the most impactful change to her ultimate. It transforms the engage from a positional tool into an actual teamfight initiator — enemies who were previously free to move immediately after she landed now have to deal with a fear duration before they can respond.

What the Data Says

According to PBE data gathered before launch, her win rate was projected to reach 52%, up from 48% in 2025 Platinum+ stats. Her jungle pick rate was approaching 15%, creating synergy with the Demacia-themed season. Early post-launch community sentiment has been overwhelmingly positive, with the consensus that Dragon Form now genuinely feels like a power spike rather than just a visual effect.

Pro Play Implications

Players can still farm and scale like before, but the added fear from her ultimate and the recast mechanics mean better timing will be key to a stronger Shyvana. She could make appearances in Spring Splits of major regions shortly after Patch 26.6 — especially if Fearless Draft and changes to AP junglers push her into the meta.

In Tier 1 competitions, the fear on Dragon’s Descent gives teams a genuine teamfighting tool they didn’t have access to before. Whether she becomes a priority pick or stays situational will depend heavily on her balance numbers over the coming patches.
