Star Citizen – Alpha 3.23: Adventure Beckons patch notes:
Star Citizen has received its latest update, Alpha 3.23: Adventure Beckons. This significant patch introduces the game’s first native animals, new hoverbikes, enhanced FPS combat, and several other exciting features. The update also brings in improvements to the UI and the Star Map, along with an expansion to the Arena Commander mode.
Native Wildlife: Marok and Kopian
The most noteworthy addition to Alpha 3.23 is the introduction of native wildlife. Players can now encounter the marok, a small, bird-like creature, soaring through the skies, and the kopian, a more formidable hound-like pest. These animals exhibit unique behaviors adapted to coexisting with humans, adding a new layer of realism and immersion to the game. The kopian, in particular, presents a challenge to players, requiring them to strategize in dealing with these dangerous creatures. The marok, however, is a fascinating sight, and its graceful flight patterns can be observed in all weather conditions.
New Hoverbikes: Pulse and Pulse LX
- The Mirai Pulse and Pulse LX hoverbikes provide enhanced mobility and utility in ground environments.
- The Pulse boasts integrated light weaponry, optimizing it for defense while maintaining exceptional speed and agility.
- The Pulse LX, designed for high-speed pursuits, prioritizes speed and maneuverability over weapons, making it ideal for aerial exploration and high-speed chases.
- Both are compact, easily stowed away within cargo bays, making them versatile companions for traversing various planets and settlements.
Master Modes for Intense Space Combat
Master Modes adds a new dynamic to space combat. Players can now choose between Navigation Mode (NAV) for fast travel and minimal defense/offense, or Standard Control Mode (SCM), which enables full offensive and defensive capabilities but sacrifices speed. This gives players more choices and strategies in space combat and fosters more engaging and intense dogfights. Ships have been re-tuned to accommodate this dual-mode system, making combat far more strategic and exhilarating.
Stanton System Expansion: Distribution Centers
The Stanton system is further enhanced with the introduction of distribution centers. These massive structures serve as mission hubs for players to pick up combat and non-combat missions. These centers feature extensive underground levels, promising exciting missions and exploration possibilities in the future. Players are encouraged to utilize personal ground transportation, especially as the centers continue to expand.
Expanded Arena Commander Mode: New Maps and Gameplay
Arena Commander receives fresh additions, introducing new maps and gameplay options, such as Miner’s Lament, a thrilling close-quarters dogfighting arena. Players can experience the asteroid-laden ring surrounding Yela, where rocks become formidable adversaries. A temporary Experimental Engineering Mode also offers a unique gameplay experience, allowing players to test and provide feedback on future engineering systems, which will enhance the overall gameplay.
Star Map 1.0: Enhanced Navigation and Exploration
The Star Map has been upgraded to version 1.0, incorporating a full 3D view of the system. Players can now search for locations by name, and plot courses from their current location, greatly simplifying navigation. It provides a crucial visual aid for navigating both vast landing zones and the interiors of spacecraft. This improvement dramatically streamlines the exploration process.
FPS Combat Enhancements: Realism and Immersion
Ground-based FPS combat receives significant enhancements, boosting its realism and immersion. These improvements include revamped sprinting animations, a dynamic crosshair system that accurately reflects weapon aiming, and a new “backpack reloading” system that increases the practicality of stored magazines. Procedural recoil on all weapons further enhances each engagement with unique challenges. These improvements significantly enhance the experience of ground combat, making it feel more visceral and engaging.
Visual Enhancements: Cloud Tech and New Customization
The volumetric cloud technology is improved for increased performance and visual fidelity, with the addition of ground fog and volumetric shadows. This update also supports various image upscaling techniques, including DLSS, FSR, and a proprietary TSR solution. Character customization benefits from a revised user interface, featuring more than 20 new hairstyles, along with other customization options.
Improved New Player Experience: Accessibility Across Locations
The New Player Experience is expanded and now accessible at various starting locations. The core skills remain consistent across these locations, but now players can choose to begin their adventures in Orison, Lorville, New Babbage, or Area18. Each starting area offers a different experience, from bustling trading hubs to urban centers, allowing for a more tailored onboarding experience for new players.
Alpha 3.23 represents a significant leap forward for Star Citizen, continuing its ambitious development roadmap towards a full release.
