If you want to buy cheap WoW Gold and start with World of Warcraft today, you’ve drawn a really hard lot. Even though the gameplay introduction works a little better now, the story in particular is a hopeless chaos that newcomers basically can’t see through. Sure, over 20 years of expansions, 3 strategy games as a basis and numerous books can’t be caught up so quickly.
If you want to understand the whole story, you have to spend several dozen hours on explanatory videos or rummage through several wikis.
A blessing for all those who have been loyal to the franchise for years, a complete overwhelm for all those who would like to dive into Warcraft.
For this very reason, the developers seem to be pursuing a plan to establish a “fresh” Azeroth. One in which the rules are clearly recognizable again and the individual factions can be described in a few sentences.
A lot of knowledge to be able to understand the main story
Because if you want to understand what exactly makes a blood elf today, you have to spend a lot of time poring over books. If you want to understand why the conflicts between the High Elves and Blood Elves are important, you have to play quest lines from over 13 years ago. You have to know what the cleansing in Dalaran was, where the Sunwell actually came from and thus also the Fountain of Eternity. Then you have to know what Kael’thas did in Warcraft III and so on…
For the same reason, Blizzard has started to slowly retire well-known characters to make way for a new generation. Prominent examples here are Tyrande and Malfurion. The two have basically retired in Dragonflight and now live on the Amirdrassil. The leadership of the night elves was handed over to their daughter Shandris. That this is not just a statement became clear in Midnight. When it comes to supporting the blood elves in the fight against the Void, neither Tyrande nor Malfurion show up – everything goes through Shandris.
The foundation for 20 more years of Warcraft
Chris Metzen had already said at BlizzCon that the World Soul saga should lay the foundation to secure the next 20 years of Warcraft. A foundation that is obviously supposed to be fresh and forms a clear baseline for everyone, in which the world appears to be ordered.
Of course, all this does not mean that the existing story of World of Warcraft will be deleted and no longer has any meaning. The races and characters are still exactly what they have become, because they have this past. But it is becoming increasingly easier to explain the world to someone in its current state in a few sentences:
- “These are the Kirin Tor. Elite magicians who used to live in a flying city and are now spread all over the world.”
- “This is Quel’thalas. Various elves live here who are skilled in using magic.”
- “Beyond the sea lurks an unknown empire of the Arathi, who serve the light fanatically and are not well-disposed towards us.”
Such descriptions work and reveal everything that is important for the first impression. Above all, however, it gives Blizzard the opportunity to create a “World of Warcraft” again that is no longer about cosmic threats. The World Soul saga with Xal’atath, the Void and the Titans should be a brilliant climax of the spiral, which was always about “bigger, stronger, more dangerous”. If this has now come to an end, we may see an Azeroth again in the 13th expansion – i.e. after the end of “The Last Titan” – in which smaller stories come more into focus and the factions play a greater role again.
How would you like such a soft reset? Do you think it’s good that Blizzard is in the process of reorganizing Azeroth a bit so that everything is easier to understand?
