When does Path of Exile 2 start?
The release of Path of Exile 2 in Early Access is on December 6, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. According to game director Jonathan Rogers, the game will remain in Early Access until at least May 2025, but the final test phase will not last longer than 2025.
Path of Exile 2 will be available on Steam, via the Epic Games Store, the in-house PC client, PS5 and Xbox. Initially, however, only supporters who have purchased a pack for at least €30 will be allowed to play. Alternatively, you must have bought a top-tier support package at some point or invested the equivalent of around 454 euros or more in the predecessor Path of Exile over the entire playing time.
Or you may be lucky enough to get access to Early Access during a key promotion. As soon as the game is released as a full version, it will be available for free to all interested parties.
Fresh insights on Path of Exile 2
What did the developers reveal?
Those responsible for the hack & slash adventure were recently available for various interviews that dealt with all areas of Path of Exile 2. A Q&A round for the Korean region, hosted by publisher Kakao Games (via YouTube and Reddit), was particularly productive.
- There will be a lot of things from Path of Exile that you will also find in Path of Exile 2. The Kingsmarch hub is an example of this. The currency item Mirror of Kalandra is also making a comeback.
- Uniques are intended to lure players into the important endgame content and offer exciting synergies with the new skills. Some unique items from PoE1 are set to make a comeback, in an adapted form.
- Players of the Early Access version can expect regular updates. The team only takes a break during the Christmas season.
- The basis of the new crafting system is supposed to be simple and accessible, but will be expanded over time – for example via the leagues of PoE2.
- Since an entire team is dedicated to the controller control of PoE2, the action RPG is said to be much better controlled with the controller than its predecessor.
- At the final launch, all cosmetic items from PoE1 should also work in PoE2. At the EA launch, there will be cosmetics where this is not yet the case. You can try on the new cosmetics from PoE2 in the shop before buying.
- Cosmetic items will also affect demon and animal forms in PoE2.
- The team is removing the mid-season updates from PoE1 in PoE2 in order to be able to bring larger content patches every three months instead.
- You can experience PoE2 alone or with up to six players from the start. Reviving comrades should be possible, but only until the endgame.
- Anyone who dies must continue to expect a penalty. It is still unclear whether this will again consist of an XP loss. What is clear is that the penalty will not be active during the campaign and in the early endgame (via Reddit).
- For mastering endgame bosses and maps, you will only ever have one attempt at a time. Only the best of the best should be able to create the hardest content.
- Many bosses are said to be easier to fight in melee combat, as they use different abilities when you are at a distance.
- The developers think it is important that all players have the same starting conditions at the start of a league. Therefore, you will have to play your way through all the acts again.
On the website mmorpg.org.pl you can find a few more information nuggets from other interviews. The developers confirmed that the Early Access characters will not be removed at the final launch. Instead, they are moving to the permanent Early Access league.
The new filter for loot is scheduled to land on the servers a few weeks after EA’s launch. In the course of the EA phase, you can also expect the two classes Druid and Huntress. The last four classes, however, will only come at launch. And it’s the plan that PoE2 will get a solo self-found, but not a ruthless mode.
