Helldivers 2: Top 6 Underrated Weapons and Stratagems
While many weapons and stratagems in Helldivers 2 are popular for their versatility and utility, some remain overlooked by many Helldivers. In this article, we’ll explore six underrated weapons and stratagems that are often overlooked but can be incredibly effective in the right situations.
Flamethrower
Don’t underestimate the Flamethrower! While it might seem like a niche weapon, it’s surprisingly effective against Terminids, especially Chargers. Aim for the leg to quickly take them down, similar to the Railgun. It’s also great for clearing chokepoints and flushing out Bug Breaches. While it may struggle against Automatons, the Flamethrower excels at fulfilling that satisfying “burning out bugs” fantasy.
Arc Thrower
The Arc Thrower might not leave visible damage, but don’t let that fool you. This weapon can effectively handle heavy enemies, not just light mobs. The Arc Thrower’s true power lies in its infinite ammo and ability to deal significant damage to Terminids, Automatons, and even heavier foes like Chargers, Bile Titans, Hulks, Walkers, and Tanks. It just takes a few more shots against those tougher targets.
For faster firing, fully charge your first shot. Subsequent shots can be charged halfway or even a quarter of the way, maintaining full range and damage.
SPEAR
The SPEAR, despite its sometimes unreliable lock-on system, remains a versatile support weapon. It can quickly eliminate Bile Titans from long distances and efficiently destroy objectives. A direct hit to the head can one-shot Bile Titans, making it invaluable for difficult missions. The SPEAR can also destroy Automaton materiel like Cannon Towers, Fabricators, tanks, and Hulks, although the latter will require multiple shots. Its firepower surpasses the Recoilless Rifle, reloads at a comparable speed, and benefits from a guidance system for added accuracy.
Laser Cannon
The Laser Cannon has evolved into an anti-tank weapon with its enhanced armor penetration. It can now efficiently deal with Chargers, Brood Commanders, and various Automaton targets, especially when targeting their weak spots. Like the Arc Thrower, it boasts near-infinite ammo and finds use in virtually every mission. While not as powerful as the Railgun, it offers a safer alternative for taking down heavy armor. Additionally, it effectively handles chaff enemies, making it a versatile weapon for situations with limited ammo. Just be mindful of overheating, as you only have one heatsink.
Orbital Airburst
The Orbital Airburst Strike is a powerful area-of-effect Stratagem. It functions like a shotgun firing from above, capable of dealing heavy damage to enemies within a small radius, including Bile Spewers. Throw the beacon directly on top of a Bug Breach and watch the kill count soar with each barrage. As a barrage-type Stratagem, it can be upgraded with “More Guns” for an extra salvo before cooldown, increasing its effectiveness even further. If you need precise area control, the Orbital Airburst is an excellent choice.
PLAS-1 Scorcher
The PLAS-1 Scorcher, as an explosive weapon, is designed to deal with medium-armored enemies, particularly Automaton units like Scout Striders and Devastator variants. The explosion’s hitbox bypasses medium armor and can hit weak spots with a few shots. While the Scorcher has a relatively small magazine size, it compensates with its raw firepower for a primary weapon. When facing the machine menace, give the Scorcher a chance, and you’ll quickly destroy those larger threats.
