Fortnite iOS: Get it Now!

What Happened To Fortnite On iOS?

For years, the popular battle royale game Fortnite was unavailable on iOS devices. This was due to a dispute between Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, and Apple regarding Apple’s App Store policies. The core issue stemmed from Epic Games implementing a direct payment system within the Fortnite app, bypassing Apple’s in-app purchase system.

Apple requires a 30% commission on all in-app purchases, which Epic Games sought to avoid. This led to Apple removing Fortnite from the App Store, sparking a legal battle between the two companies. While Fortnite remained available on other platforms like Android, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, iOS users were left unable to download or update the game. The legal proceedings continued for a considerable time, with significant implications for the future of app distribution.

Recent regulatory changes in the European Union, specifically the Digital Markets Act (DMA), have compelled Apple to allow alternative app stores on iOS devices. This has created an opportunity for Fortnite to return to iOS, albeit initially only in the EU region, marking a major shift in the mobile gaming landscape.

How To Play Fortnite On iPhone

Thanks to the Digital Markets Act, playing Fortnite on your iPhone is now possible within the European Union. You can install the Epic Games Store app, which is essentially an alternative app store, directly onto your iPhone. This involves a few specific steps to ensure compatibility and compliance with Apple’s new regulations. First, confirm you are physically located within the EU to pass the region check.

Ensure your iPhone is running iOS 17.4 or later, as this version includes the necessary support for alternative app marketplaces. Use the Safari browser to visit the Epic Games website and find the download link for the Epic Games Store. You will be prompted to allow Epic Games to install a marketplace on your device. Grant the necessary permissions in your iPhone’s settings.

Once the Epic Games Store is installed, launch the app and search for Fortnite. Download and install the game directly through the Epic Games Store. Be aware that the initial download may take some time, as Fortnite is a large game. After the installation is complete, you can launch Fortnite and start playing on your iPhone.

How to Play Fortnite On iPad

Similar to the iPhone, playing Fortnite on your iPad within the EU is achievable through alternative app stores. One popular method involves using AltStore PAL, another alternative app marketplace. The installation process is similar to installing the Epic Games Store, but utilizes the AltStore PAL platform instead. Verify that you are located in a European Union country to meet the regional requirements.

Update your iPad to iPadOS 17.4 or a later version to ensure compatibility with alternative app stores. Visit the AltStore website using Safari on your iPad and locate the download link for AltStore PAL, specifically designed for EU users. You’ll need to permit AltStore LLC to install a marketplace on your device through your iPad’s settings.

After AltStore PAL is installed, open the app and search for Fortnite within the AltStore PAL marketplace. Begin the download and installation process directly through AltStore PAL. Keep in mind that this may take some time due to the size of the game. Once the installation is complete, you can launch Fortnite and enjoy playing on your iPad. Using either the Epic Games Store or AltStore PAL offers alternative ways to access Fortnite on iOS devices within the EU.
