‘We’ll see if we can do something extra for her’
Larian Studios has acknowledged a “very, very stupid bug” that’s been preventing 1,500 lines of dialogue from playing for the drow companion Minthara in Baldur’s Gate 3. Director Swen Vincke confirmed to iGV that the bug has been isolated and will be fixed soon.
The bug, which reportedly affected Minthara’s lines in previous versions of the game, highlights the complexity of a sprawling RPG with thousands of intricate interactions. It also underscores the potential for cascading reactions that can accidentally lock out content.
Minthara’s Role and the Bug’s Impact
Minthara’s role in the game is that of a sidekick. While she’s not a playable character at the start, she interacts with players and helps progress certain aspects of the story. However, this “very, very stupid bug” has left a significant portion of her content, including dialogue and interactions, inaccessible.
Addressing the Issue and Potential Future Development
Larian Studios is committed to fixing the bug and addressing player feedback regarding Minthara’s content. While the fix won’t be included in Patch 2, they’re working on a solution that will be released “around the corner.”
Beyond the immediate bug fix, Larian is also considering potential future expansions for Minthara’s content. They’re taking player feedback into account and exploring options to enhance her role in the game.
While Minthara may not be a fully realized companion, Vincke assures players that the team is “taking it all in” and “filtering through it,” indicating their willingness to make changes based on player input.
Other Updates in Patch 2
Patch 2 will bring various updates and improvements to the game, including:
- Performance Enhancements
- Bug Fixes
- New Epilogue for Karlach
- Coop Improvements
Fans are eager for these updates, especially the new epilogue for Karlach, which Vincke teased with a cryptic hint: “If you see a cigar, you’ve found the new content.” Patch 2 is currently in QA testing and expected to release soon, bringing much-needed improvements and fixes to the game.
Moving Forward: A Focus on Player Feedback
Larian Studios’ commitment to addressing player feedback highlights their dedication to creating a satisfying experience for players. They’re actively listening and responding to concerns, demonstrating their commitment to improving the game over time.
The bug fix for Minthara, along with other updates in Patch 2, shows their dedication to delivering a refined and enjoyable experience for all players.
