Tanks in World of Warcraft have received a strong buff. With a hotfix, they are now much better at binding enemies to them.

Finding a tank in World of Warcraft is often quite difficult. This is not only because tanking is not fun for many players, but also because as a tank you have a lot of responsibility and have to have a broad knowledge of all the game content. After all, you set the pace and the route in groups.

All the more annoying when the few tanks that exist no longer enjoy this role because they are constantly losing aggro. That’s why Blizzard has now intervened and significantly increased the threat to tanks.

What was the problem?

With the increasing item level, which was also favored by the “Turbo Boost” event, DPS characters can achieve higher and higher damage values in dungeons and raids. Especially in the “burst phases”, which are often at the beginning of a fight, these characters can cause so much damage that many tanks can no longer maintain the threat.

The result: The enemies walk over to the DPS characters in a good mood and usually beat them out of life with a single blow.

Once a tank might be able to catch this with a taunt, but as soon as it’s on cooldown, it looks bad.

This has led to more and more frustration in recent weeks, with many tanks saying: Content in high-level “Mythic+” dungeons is no longer fun because you simply can’t hold the aggro against good DDs.

What has Blizzard changed now?

Many tanks have noticed that since yesterday (12.06.2025), refueling has become much easier again. This is because Blizzard has significantly increased the threat that tanks generate.

Previously, tanks had an 815% threat. This value has now been raised to 950%. This corresponds to an increase of 135% – or 16.5% in relation to the previous value.

The consequence of this is that tanks can now “hold” the aggro much easier again; i.e. build up enough threat so that the enemies don’t run wildly from character to character. This should also make high-level dungeons with strongly equipped DPS characters more feasible.
Another buff affects the Horrific Visions right now – they are now much easier than before, even with 8 active masks!
