Elden Ring: Defeating Morgott the Omen King

Morgott, the Omen King, is a formidable boss encountered in Leyndell, Royal Capital, in Elden Ring. He is a much more challenging foe than Margit, the Fell Omen, who players faced in Stormveil Castle. Morgott possesses a wider array of attacks, including both physical and holy magic moves. This guide will provide strategies and tips to help you conquer this powerful boss.

Understanding Morgott’s Attacks

Morgott’s arsenal includes:

  • Cane Swipes: A series of quick and agile strikes with his cane.
  • Dagger Slash: A short-range, deadly attack with a dagger.
  • Dagger Burst: A powerful burst of daggers that erupts from his hand.
  • Holy Hammer Slam: A sweeping slam with a holy hammer.
  • Spear Throw: A ranged attack launched at players who attack from a distance.
  • Holy Sword Shower: A devastating attack that rains holy swords from the sky.

Phase 1: Summon Melina and Stay at a Distance

The first phase of the fight focuses on keeping your distance and utilizing ranged attacks. Summon Melina before the fight begins, and allow her to take the lead. She can withstand a considerable amount of damage, giving you time to land attacks from afar. Utilize Ashes of War abilities like Storm Blade, which allows you to deal damage without being in close proximity. When Morgott focuses his attacks on Melina, take advantage of the opportunity to land a few hits before retreating.

Phase 2: Beware of the Explosion and Status Effects

The second phase of the battle marks a significant escalation in difficulty. Morgott will begin imbuing his weapons with status effects like bleed and fire. Random explosions occur in the arena, and his combo attacks become more aggressive. Be particularly cautious of the deadly thrust after he coats his blade in blood, as it can easily one-shot you.

Punishing Morgott’s Vulnerabilities

Despite the increased difficulty, Morgott still exhibits vulnerabilities during the second phase. Many of his attacks leave him open to punishment. Watch for moments when he recovers from an attack and exploit these opportunities to land a flurry of hits.

Targeting the Hammer Attack

A particularly advantageous moment to attack Morgott is when he uses his holy hammer. As he swings the hammer, roll to avoid damage and then immediately unleash a barrage of attacks. He will be stunned for a brief moment after the attack, allowing you to land some free hits before retreating to safety.

Experimentation and Perseverance

Beating Morgott the Omen King requires experimentation and practice. Don’t be afraid to try different strategies and approaches. If you find yourself struggling, consider upgrading your weapons and armor, and experimenting with different Ashes of War. Remember, persistence and a solid understanding of Morgott’s attack patterns will ultimately lead you to victory.
