Are You Playing Black Myth: Wukong at Launch?
Game Science, the developer of the highly anticipated action RPG Black Myth: Wukong, has issued a statement addressing technical issues encountered by players since the game’s release. While the studio acknowledged that “despite multiple internal full-process tests of Black Myth: Wukong, given the game’s vast scale and the myriad of software and hardware environments, occasional serious issues may still arise,” they reassured players that patches are in development to resolve these problems.
Addressing Technical Issues
Game Science has identified several technical issues that players may encounter, including graphics problems and PC-specific crashes. They have suggested that players who experience these issues try resting at the Keeper’s Shrine or restarting the game. In addition, they are requesting player consent to their ‘Data Storage and Processing Agreement’ in order to address issues proactively.
A Massive Launch
Despite the technical hiccups, Black Myth: Wukong has enjoyed a phenomenal launch, exceeding the concurrent player count of Cyberpunk 2077 to become the most-played single-player game ever on Steam. With a peak concurrent player count of over 1.8 million, it ranks third highest on Steam behind PUBG and Palworld. The game has also launched on PlayStation 5, Tencent’s WeGame platform, and the Epic Games Store. An Xbox Series X and S version is expected to release later.
Acknowledging Concerns
The game’s successful launch comes at a time when Game Science is facing criticism over a history of sexist comments made by studio founders and developers. Recently, iGV verified an email from the Black Myth: Wukong marketing team that instructed content creators not to include “feminist propaganda” or use certain “trigger words” in their coverage. While Game Science has not yet responded to iGV’s previous report detailing the studio’s history of sexist behavior, they have emphasized their commitment to delivering a quality experience for players and addressing any issues through subsequent patches.
