The true plans of Xal’atath in World of Warcraft are finally known. We now know what their big goal is.

What does Xal’atath do in patch 11.2?
A special feature that should be noticed relatively early on in K’aresh is the alliance that the spacewalker forges. Much to Alleria’s dissatisfaction, the spacewalker makes a pact with Xal’atath to prevent the summoning of the Void Lord Dimensius.
This may seem strange at first glance, after all, most of us assumed that Xal’atath works for Dimensius after all. However, Xal’atath seems to be more of a “forced” henchman and if there’s one thing we’ve learned about the Dagger Lady, it’s that she puts freedom above everything else.
Therefore, Xal’atath is more than willing to support the defenders. We learn a lot about the astrales, the midwayers and also the strange substances they use to give shape to their bodies.
What happens in the end?
It is not yet clear exactly how the fight against Dimensius will end – that will probably only be revealed by the fight itself and the subsequent cut-scene. However, we have already gained a lot of information from data mining, from which the rough course of the story can be derived:
Xal’atath supports us in the fight against Dimensius and ensures that we can destroy him. However, Xal’atath also takes advantage of this moment – she betrays the spacewalker and kills him.
In a follow-up conversation after the fight, we learn that Xal’atath probably devoured the essence of Dimensius in the process. Alleria wants to prevent “Xal’atath from becoming the new All-Devourer”. Or to put it another way: Xal’atath apparently intends to become the most powerful being of the Void and to rise above the other Void Lords. This also fits well with the new story discoveries of the Old Gods.
As a rule, Void Lords do not work together, but only serve one thing: themselves. The void devours everything until only the most powerful remain. This can also be seen in the boss fight against Dimensius, because he has two “smaller” Void Lords in tow, who have already been devoured by him.
How does the story continue?
Since patch 11.2 is already paving the way for the next expansion, Midnight, we should feel the effects of Xal’atath’s increase in power relatively quickly. Because Xal’atath’s ultimate goal of obtaining the World Soul of Azeroth will still not be fulfilled.
However, it seems to be clear that we defeat Dimensius, but only continue to play into Xal’atath’s hands. It’s a situation where we can’t win at all—because if Dimensius isn’t defeated, he’ll devour Azeroth as well.
