Who is Zekvir?
Zekvir is the creature that keeps exerting its influence in the depths. He is a subordinate of Xal’atath. In most depths, you can see Zekvir reinforcing various mob groups. Occasionally, he will suddenly appear to attack you – but then disappear again.
In fact, Zekvir is the “boss” of the current season that you can defeat. It is thus considered the final challenge for all depth fans.
Where can you find Zekvir?
Zekvir can be found in Azj-Kahet. There he has his own depths in which you can challenge him. You can find the entrance at coordinates 33 / 77 in the City of Threads. You start the fight by simply starting its depth.
How do you unlock Zekvir?
Zekvir comes on two different difficulty levels, which are not exactly specified by Blizzard. The first level is “?” and you unlock it as soon as you have successfully completed a level 8 depth. The second level “??”, on the other hand, you unlock as soon as you have successfully completed a level 10 depth.
How to defeat Zekvir
Defeating Zekvir is not that easy – at least most of the time. Due to various balancing issues, it was possible to kill the boss for a few days without much effort. However, Blizzard is in the process of revising the balance throughout in order to make the challenge almost equal for all classes. So don’t be discouraged if some people brag that they “just blew Zekvir away”—it may have happened at a time when the difficulty was simply bugged.
Zekvir is meant to be an exciting, challenging battle to overcome. This can take quite a few attempts. So don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t work out with Zekvir right away. Try to improve yourself and your equipment – Brann’s level can also have a big impact. Brann not only grows with his level, but your equipment also rubs off on him – the higher your item level, the stronger Brann becomes.
Tips for Zekvir on “?” -Difficulty
On the ?-difficulty, Zekvir has 90 million health points. The fight only ends when you have completely defeated him. If you already have Brann at a high level and are using it as a DD, then the fight will end at 5% of his health – because then Brann can simply execute him and end the fight prematurely.
The fight against Zekvir follows a pattern and it is part of the process that you learn the order of his abilities by heart and counter each ability accordingly. Almost every one of Zekvir’s abilities is lethal or extremely punishing.
- Claw Slasher is a classic “frontal” cast on a player or Brann. Dodge at all costs, a single hit can be fatal.
- Angler’s Web throws a hook at characters in a straight line and pulls them towards Zekvir, which in most cases ends fatally.
- Call Web Terror summons a web cocoon that hatches after 15 seconds. Save your big damage cooldowns for this net and destroy it as soon as possible! If the web survives, a mob will hatch from it that has twice the life points of the net. However, damage already caused will be taken into account. The add casts a spell that can stun players for a long time. The adds always have the highest priority.
- Debilitating saliva should be interrupted. The spell applies a slow and a very strong damage-over-time effect to all characters. The debuff is a magic effect and can be dispelled accordingly. It is also removed by spells that cancel slows (for example, Blessing of Freedom or Fade).
- Horrific Roar is a spell centered around Zekvir that strikes fear into the hearts of all characters, damaging them in the process. Just step out of the target area before the spell is complete.
The basic strategy is to keep Zekvir in the middle of the room at all times and immediately switch to the summoned webs as soon as they appear. You should use your big cooldowns for this. You have to actively dodge the boss’s other abilities and at the same time keep yourself alive with self-healing or skillful “aggro ping-pong” with Brann. Debilitating saliva should be interrupted every time or the debuff should be removed immediately.
A high value in Lifesteal can make a significant difference in this fight, as can a Talent specialization that clearly focuses on single-target damage.
Tips for Zek’vir on “??” -Difficulty
On the ?? difficulty, Zekvir has around 200 million health points – more than twice as much. The fight will last correspondingly longer. Good equipment and an almost maximally leveled Brann Bronzebeard are recommended here.
In addition, there are the following changes to combat:
- Almost all of Zekvir’s abilities have a significantly reduced cast time, so you have to react much faster.
- The summoned net and the resulting add have significantly more life points.
- The debuff of Weakening Saliva deals much more damage.
- The new Regenerating Carapace ability heals Zekvir for 20 million HP if it is not interrupted.
- In addition, from 60% remaining health, a new combat phase begins, during which even more mechanics occur.
- Infinite Spikes creates Void Portals in space. These portals create areas that you are not allowed to touch.
- Blood-Filled Carapace replaces the old healing spell. If this spell is not interrupted, Zekvir heals himself for 50 million HP.
- His fear spell becomes Eternal Terror. If you are hit by it, the fear effect is permanent and will not end until you die.
The fight against Zekvir is really tough. You need quick reactions and a good understanding of the class. We recommend that you only try this fight with an item level of 615 or higher, and your Brann should also be close to level 60. If you don’t know how to best equip Brann, we’ve explained it in more detail in this guide.
Keep in mind that luck also has a certain share. Because if Brann Bronzebeard is permanently terrified or absorbs absolutely every attack with his face, he is defeated extremely quickly. Then the fight turns out to be even more difficult.
Have you defeated Zekvir yet? If so, did you do that at the time when balancing was still totally in the bucket and can you now unjustly boast about the achievement? Or are you still despairing of the nasty creature that just doesn’t want to die?
