Over the past year, World of Warcraft has tried a lot of new things. The two biggest innovations were probably Remix: Mists of Pandaria and Plunderstorm mode. The latter will return as early as the beginning of 2025 and this is likely to once again split the community into two camps. What kind of game mode is this?
Plunderstorm throws characters onto the map of Arathi Highlands, either solo or as small teams, and pits them against each other in a Battle Royale. However, there are not the normal WoW abilities, but a whole set of new skills that you get in the course of the game – or can take from other characters. Whoever is the last one alive wins the round.
The important goal, however, is to collect loot (“junk”). This not only increases the character level in the game mode, but also gives you the currency, which is then used to unlock rewards.
What is different this time?
It is not yet clear whether the game mode as such will be different and whether there will be new abilities. What is clear, however, is that this time there are no fame rewards that you unlock gradually. Instead, you should be able to spend the loot in a kind of shop.
Even if no details are known yet, the advantage here is clearly that you can buy the rewards you want and leave everything else behind. In addition, there will also be the opportunity to earn the rewards of past events.
Why was the mode controversial?
Players of World of Warcraft are “creatures of habit” in many respects and often have a hard time when something new appears in the game that doesn’t seem to fit the previous game at all. A Battle Royale that comes with completely new abilities and even its own controls at the same time did not meet the taste of many – in addition to the fact that it is a pure PvP event.
However, there is also a large part of the community that is already looking forward to the return of the mode and hopes that there will be more variants in the future.
