How do I start fishing in Warframe?
To begin your fishing journey in Warframe, you’ll need a Fishing Spear. You can obtain this from Fisher Hai-Luk, a vendor located in Cetus. However, Hai-luk doesn’t accept Credits; instead, you’ll need to use Standing. Earn Standing by completing bounties assigned by Konzu in Cetus. The starter Fishing Spear costs only 500 Standing, so completing a single bounty should be enough to purchase it. Once you have your spear, equip it from your Gear menu, accessible through your Arsenal.
Now, head to the Plains of Eidolon and locate a body of water. Equip your Fishing Spear by pressing Q on PC and selecting the corresponding Gear slot. Aim down the sights of the spear, similar to aiming a weapon (right mouse button by default on PC), while facing the water. Environmental sounds will partially mute, and within a few seconds, you’ll hear the sound of bubbling, splashing water, indicating a fish has spawned. Follow the sound and keep your eyes on the water. Eventually, you’ll spot the fish, along with its species name if you hover over it with your crosshair. With the fish in your sights, aim and throw your spear by pressing the same button used to fire a weapon (left mouse button by default on PC). A successful throw will land the fish, while a miss will send it swimming away. Miss too many times, and the fish will disappear.
After catching your desired fish, return to Cetus and visit Fisher Hai-Luk. Select “Fishing Services” and choose either “Provide” to donate your fish to Cetus for Standing or “Cut Bait” to break them down into components used in crafting.
How do I catch rare fish?
Certain crafting recipes require components from rare fish species. To catch these elusive creatures, you’ll need to do some research. Different fish spawn at specific times of the day-and-night cycle and in particular bodies of water. The official Warframe wiki is a great resource for this information. Also, note that some rare fish only appear when you use bait.
Rare fish often require specialized spears or multiple throws to reel them in due to their increased resilience compared to their more common counterparts.
How do I acquire and use bait?
Fisher Hai-Luk sells bait blueprints, not the bait itself. Once you’ve purchased a blueprint, you can use it unlimited times to craft bait from your Foundry. Crafting bait requires resources found on the Plains of Eidolon, often obtained from other fish species. Make sure to gather these while you’re exploring the area.
To use bait, head to the Plains of Eidolon and equip your Fishing Spear. You’ll see the bait in your fishing menu on the bottom right of the screen. Press the corresponding number key while aiming at the water to cast your bait. However, simply throwing it anywhere won’t guarantee results. Aim for “hotspots,” areas of the water marked by rippling white bubbles. These hotspots will activate your bait and keep it active for three minutes, increasing the chance of your desired fish spawning. Using multiple copies of the same bait in a hotspot won’t increase the chance of the fish spawning, so stick to one at a time.
How can I see fish when I’m fishing at night?
Nighttime fishing can be challenging due to the darkness making it difficult to spot fish. To overcome this, purchase a Luminos Dye blueprint from Hai-Luk and build it in your Foundry using Iradite and Ferrite. Like bait, it appears in your fishing menu when you equip your Fishing Spear. Unlike bait, you can throw it anywhere in the water and it will still have an effect.
After throwing the Luminos Dye, nearby fish will glow for two minutes, making them easy to locate and target. This is especially helpful at night or when fishing in areas with aquatic plants where fish may hide. One Luminos Dye provides ten charges, so use it liberally!
