Destiny 2: Getting Necrochasm

Unlock Necrochasm in Contest Mode

During the first 48 hours of Crota’s End’s return, the Necrochasm was guaranteed to drop after completing the raid in Contest Mode. This was a great opportunity for players who wanted to get their hands on the weapon quickly. However, for those who missed the Contest Mode window, there’s still a way to unlock the Necrochasm.

Destiny 2 Nechrochasm Bottomless Pit

To start the Necrochasm quest, you need to complete Crota’s End and defeat Crota. This will grant you the exotic quest, “Bottomless Pit,” which is picked up from the Sword of Crota. As part of this quest, you’ll receive an early form of Necrochasm called “The Husk of the Pit.”

Defeat 100 Hive with the Husk of the Pit

The next step requires you to defeat 100 Hive enemies using the Husk of the Pit. You can do this anywhere Hive are present, but Crota’s End offers a good opportunity to farm them during encounters. Alternatively, you can head to the Altars of Sorrow on the Moon, where there are high-density Hive events that make this step quick to complete.

Collect Essence of the Oversoul

After defeating 100 Hive, you’ll receive the Eidolon Ally, which is the legendary version of Necrochasm. To unlock the exotic version, you need to gather 20 Essence of the Oversoul. These can be obtained from two sources: completing raid encounters or completing raid Triumphs in Crota’s End.

  • Each Triumph completed grants 2 Essence of the Oversoul.
  • Encounters give 1-2 Essence of the Oversoul depending on the encounter.

Importantly, progress counts retroactively, meaning if you’ve already made significant progress in Crota’s End, you may have already earned the required Essence of the Oversoul.

Receive the Necrochasm

Once you’ve gathered 20 Essence of the Oversoul, you’ll unlock the Necrochasm. Defeat Crota again, and you’ll receive the exotic weapon. Enjoy your new weapon and its unique perks!
