How Long is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
Brendan Graeber – Senior Guides Editor
My experience with Tears of the Kingdom highlights the game’s immense scope. While I finished the main story in approximately 60 hours, this was achievable only by prioritising the narrative. Initially, the allure of exploration and discovery quickly consumed my time. I found myself drawn to meticulously uncovering secrets and revisiting familiar areas, noticing subtle changes and new opportunities. This iterative approach to the world led to an extended playtime far exceeding the main storyline completion. My continued desire to map out every possible path and meticulously document every finding through our wiki guide will ensure many more hours are invested. I anticipate that my total playtime will be well in excess of 100 hours.

My Tears of the Kingdom journey spanned roughly 82 hours. This figure includes a significant amount of exploration and deviation from the core narrative. The game offers an impressive array of side quests, hidden secrets, and shrines. Despite reaching the credits, the game still felt incomplete; in fact, I’d barely scratched the surface of all the activities available. There were numerous side objectives still uncompleted. The game’s open world design presents such a rich tapestry of experiences that even after considerable time dedicated to the primary narrative, a vast amount of content remains untouched. The game’s depth is truly impressive.

My Tears of the Kingdom adventure concluded in around 70 hours. I focused on completing 16 side adventures, 10 side quests, 3 shrine quests, and roughly 72 shrines. This playtime, however, is heavily influenced by my video production responsibilities. The need to capture and edit quality footage meant revisiting certain sections. This process, while adding to the overall time spent, didn’t reflect the full potential of free exploration. Without the constraints of deadlines, I’m confident the time spent could have exceeded expectations. My current 35% completion rate highlights the abundance of activities beyond the core narrative. The game’s extensive options allow players to personalize their journey dramatically.
Overall Completion Times
Different approaches and priorities greatly influence completion times. While completing the main story quickly is certainly feasible, the game’s sheer volume and engaging ancillary activities allow for considerably longer playtimes. Based on various estimations, user data reveals insights into varying approaches to the game.
- Fastest completion: Approximately 60 hours for the main story.
- Average completion: Roughly 70-82 hours to achieve credits with a mix of main and side content.
- Completionist estimations: HowLongToBeat estimates around 112 hours for comprehensive completion of all aspects, which takes significant time for thorough exploration.
It’s important to remember that these are just estimates. The actual time required will heavily depend on each individual player’s preferred gaming style, their willingness to engage in side quests and activities, and their tolerance for replaying segments of the game.
