Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – Meet 8 of Cal’s Enemies
Combat is paramount in a great action game, but the enemies are just as crucial. Respawn’s design for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor focuses on engaging challenges beyond simple mechanics. iGV delves into the enemy design, talking to key designers about the new enemy types poised to test Cal Kestis’ skills.
Droids
Respawn prioritized more droids as enemies in Jedi: Survivor. From basic, numerous enemies to formidable threats like Droidekas, the diverse range offers combat variety. The flexibility of droids allows for a wide array of attack styles and weaponry.
B1 Droids
The B1 droids serve as common, “fodder” enemies on Koboh. While individually weak, their numbers and surprising ability to ambush Cal make them potent threats. Their amusing banter and repetitive phrases add a unique element to combat.
B2 Droids
B2 droids are the bruisers of the droid family. They take significant damage, but pack a hefty melee punch. Their blaster and missile launcher add ranged attacks. The key to overcoming them is mastering their parry timings and anticipating their missiles.
BX Droids
Agile and elusive, BX droids excel at parrying attacks and executing multi-hit spin techniques. Their ability to leap and dodge makes them challenging opponents for melee combat. Their history as Vibro-Sword wielders fighting Jedi makes them formidable mid-level adversaries.
Droideka
Familiar to fans from the prequels, the Droideka, or “Destroyer Droids,” return in Jedi: Survivor. Their iconic bubble shields and rolling attacks are key design elements. The Droideka’s melee integration with their rolling attacks and shield make them formidable enemies that can’t be easily stunned.
IG-100 Magna Guard
The IG-100 Magna Guards are powerful melee warriors, reminiscent of General Grievous’ elite bodyguards. Their superior skills allow them to attack with varied rhythms and counterplayer tactics to confuse Cal’s strategies.
Shield Trooper
The Shield Trooper’s design stemmed from a desire for a more resilient Scout Trooper. Their shielding mechanics force players to strategize. The key to defeating them is using Force Pull to remove their shields, turning them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.
DT Sentry Droid
DT Sentry Droids are designed as large and formidable enemies. Inspired by Star Wars Rebels, they offer a unique challenge with various loadouts. These droids’ flexibility—with their diverse loadouts like staffs, hammers, and blasters—creates varied combat experiences. Their design includes the capability of losing limbs without losing their aggression.
KX Security Droid Enforcer
The KX Security Droid Enforcer, returning from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, now wield stun batons instead of their previous grapple-and-slam attacks. As trainers of Scout Troopers, they pose a more potent threat. These droids, though bruisers, possess strategic blocking and countering abilities, making them tough opponents.
These are just a few of the enemies in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Players can anticipate encounters with a variety of hostile creatures and factions like the Bedlam Raiders, offering a vast and challenging combat experience throughout the game.
