Great Sky Island Shrines Guide: Tears of the Kingdom
The Great Sky Island acts as a crucial introductory area in Tears of the Kingdom, teaching players the game’s mechanics and unlocking Link’s powerful new abilities. Navigating these four shrines, each with unique puzzles, is essential for progressing through the game.
Ukuoh Shrine
Unlocked Ability: Ultrahand
This shrine introduces the Ultrahand ability, a more versatile version of Magnesis. It allows you to grab and manipulate various objects. The key to the puzzle is manipulating objects to create a temporary bridge and a makeshift raft to navigate to the next platform. Utilize the hooks, boards, and cables strategically placed throughout the shrine to progress. Don’t forget the chest on the pillar to the right!
In-Isa Shrine
Unlocked Ability: Fuse
The Fuse ability, learned here, enables you to combine weapons with different items, significantly boosting their stats. Initially, you’ll need to use the Thick Stick to break the initial rock barriers. Next, fuse a weapon with a boulder for greater effectiveness against obstacles. After that, use a weapon fused with a rock/boulder to progress to the next portion. Collect resources, like Fire Fruits and an Old Wooden Bow, to progress. Exploit the environment – fire an arrow with a Fire Fruit attached to a wall of dry leaves to reveal a treasure chest with a Small Key. Use this key to access a final section, where defeating an enemy will reward you with valuable tools and a Light of Blessing.
Gutanbac Shrine
Unlocked Ability: Ascend
Ascend allows vertical traversal through solid surfaces, a crucial technique in this shrine. Begin by using Ascend to reach the top of the patterned ceiling. Conquer a small enemy encounter in the next section. The shrine strategically places chests and boxes with essential items, like a Stone Axe and a Construct Bow, for tackling the puzzle’s obstacles. Successfully ascend beneath the bridge to traverse a gap to the next section, where you will need to time your Ascent with a moving platform.
Nachoyah Shrine
Unlocked Ability: Recall
The Recall ability allows for time manipulation of moving objects. The puzzle begins with moving rafts; use Recall to ride a raft until you reach a waterfall. Use Recall to get back on the raft that fell from the waterfall to cross the next section. A crucial step involves finding a chest with extra arrows. The final challenge involves two spinning dials above a gate. Master timing with Recall to make the dials align and open the gate, leading to a final treasure chest and the Light of Blessing.
Completing these shrines unlocks crucial abilities and sets you up for further exploration in Hyrule, demonstrating the importance of these early encounters.
