Rocket League Friends Update – Patch v1.58
What’s the Friends Update?
The Rocket League Friends Update, part of Patch v1.58, dramatically improves cross-platform play. It’s no longer a cumbersome task to connect with friends across various platforms. This update simplifies finding and adding friends on different gaming systems, enabling seamless matchmaking. Beyond this core function, the update also contains general improvements and bug fixes that enhance the overall gameplay experience.
Can we talk about this Friend’s Tab?
The Friends tab remains largely unchanged. It continues to function as the central hub for managing your existing friends list. You can readily invite them to parties, clubs, or directly into matches. This essential feature remains unchanged, allowing you to easily connect with those you’ve previously added to your friends list on the same platform.
How about the most important change?
The standout improvement is the introduction of RocketID. This unique identifier, akin to a social security number, allows for accurate identification of players across different platforms. This solves the problem of multiple players with the same name on various systems. Crucially, you can now add friends based on their RocketID, regardless of their platform, simplifying the process of connecting with players on different gaming platforms. You can also search for them using their gamertag if you don’t know their specific RocketID.
What about the recent Players Tab?
The new Recent Players tab displays the last 25 players you’ve played with or against, but aren’t yet friends with. It’s a helpful tool for reconnecting with good teammates or opponents you’ve enjoyed playing with previously. Although less visually engaging than other features, it’s a valuable addition for casual and serious Rocket League players alike.
How do I add friends?
Adding friends on any platform now primarily revolves around the Alerts Tab. This is where you’ll find any pending friend requests from players using their RocketIDs, along with party invites, and club invitations. This central notification hub ensures you’re updated on connection requests from new players. You’ll no longer be hunting down different friend systems; all of your requests and pending invitations will be in one place.
How do Streamers fit in with this?
Streamers and casual players alike have options regarding their RocketID visibility. If you prefer not to have your RocketID publicly displayed on your friends list, you can opt to hide it. This privacy setting allows streamers to manage their presence and interactions on the platform, while ensuring privacy for all players.
Summary
The Rocket League Friends Update, Patch v1.58, marks a significant step towards a more integrated and user-friendly cross-platform experience. The addition of RocketID drastically simplifies the process of connecting with friends on different systems. This new system has brought a fresh look at the way players can connect and play together. With a variety of new functions to match the new features, there is no reason to not enjoy the update. Beyond the core cross-platform improvements, features like the Recent Players tab and customizable RocketID visibility further enhance the overall player experience.
