iGV Reviews Redfall

Bloody Bore

Redfall is a game that’s best described as Far Cry with a supernatural twist. The premise is simple: reclaim the town from vampires and their human lackeys. However, the experience of doing so is remarkably boring. The missions are incredibly repetitive, each one feeling like a variation on the same limited templates. Most missions involve scouring various locations around town for random items, picking them up, putting them down, or turning them on or off. This can be frustrating, as even simple tasks, like finding candles, can be needlessly convoluted. The game’s overall feeling of repetitiveness extends beyond the missions. The vampire nests, which act as enemy camps, recycle the same segments and reuse them over and over again. The game’s conclusion is also underwhelming, with a final boss fight that boils down to pressing a button at specific points on the map.

Who is the greatest vampire slayer?

This is a subjective question with no definitive answer. It depends on personal preferences and what criteria are most important to consider.

10 Bloody Good Vampire Games

  • Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines
  • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
  • Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
  • Vampire Survivors
  • Darkwatch
  • Vampyr
  • Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer [Unreleased 2001 Version]
  • BloodRayne: Betrayal
  • V Rising

Redfall has a lot of potential, thanks to its four heroes, each with their own set of abilities, and its support for up to four players in co-op mode. The combat can be kinetic and bloody, but it suffers from some significant flaws. The enemies in Redfall are incredibly unintelligent, lacking any real threat or strategic thinking. Human enemies seem disinterested in taking cover effectively, while vampires often appear to be in a state of perpetual slumber. The story is equally underwhelming. The events are presented through slideshows, lacking any engaging twists or turns. Progression in co-op mode doesn’t save for all players, making it frustrating for those playing together. Redfall is riddled with technical issues that further diminish the experience. Texture pop-in and stuttering are common occurrences, while disappearing characters, missing animations, and mission-breaking bugs are frequent annoyances. Although running at 30fps on Xbox Series X|S, the game’s performance problems go beyond frame rate. The frequent glitches and bugs create a frustrating experience that detracts from any potential fun the game might offer.
