Situational (Tactical) Awareness
Situational awareness is key in PUBG. It’s about understanding your surroundings, knowing potential cover, dangerous paths, and likely enemy movement. This starts with the plane’s flight path. Pay attention to its entry and exit points, which can help you predict player landing zones. When the first circle appears, note the quadrant of the flight path, as this will give you a sense of where most players are headed.
Explore different settlements and compounds across the map, noting possible choke points for ambushes. Remember that choke points are only effective if they lie within the path towards the shrinking circle. Ambushes are risky, but if you’re not confident in open-ground skirmishes, consider setting up in a well-hidden spot. If an enemy team enters a building with open doors and no visible players, they might assume it’s empty and keep running. This presents an excellent opportunity for you to strike.
Watch Your Back
Always be mindful of your surroundings, especially behind you. It’s a crucial element of survival in PUBG.
When a circle forms, most players head towards the center along the straight line indicated on the minimap. Instead, position yourself at the edge of the circle, ensuring your position is clear, then turn to face the direction you came from. This puts you in a good position to pick off players trying to outrun the blue wall. You’ll often find that you can take them down easily as they’re focused on reaching the center. Remember, however, that the next inner circle might spawn far away, forcing you to make a long run to safety, but that’s the thrill of the game!
Ride the Edge of the Circle
As the game progresses, position yourself on the edge of the shrinking circle. Observe where the blue line is closest to the white line of the new circle – this is where the wall contracts slowest. By moving along this edge, you gain a flanking advantage against opponents focused on the center. Players often rush into the middle, which exposes them to attacks from all sides.
Riding the edge allows you to flank unsuspecting opponents and maintain situational awareness. You can often catch players off-guard as they move towards the center, giving you a tactical edge.
Don’t Be Trigger Happy
Shooting gives away your location, alerting both the target and potentially drawing in others. Remember that sound plays a crucial role in PUBG.
Avoid unnecessary shooting. Often, it’s wiser to observe and wait for a better opportunity. If you engage an enemy and knock them down, you might alert their entire team, leading to a disadvantage for you. It’s sometimes better to let enemies leave a building and attack them in the open, where you have a better chance of winning the engagement.
The Weapon of Choice
The best weapon depends on your playstyle and the situation. In early game, SMGs and shotguns are useful for clearing buildings, while long-range weapons like snipers become more valuable as the game progresses.
While silencers used to be powerful, they are now less effective. Compensators are becoming more popular, even in late-game. Don’t hesitate to engage simply because you lack a silencer. When approaching the final stages of the game, consider switching from an x8 scope to an x4 scope on your sniper. An x4 scope offers a good balance between magnification and field of vision. Ideally, you should carry both an assault rifle with a red dot sight and a sniper with an x4 scope for close-to-medium range engagements.
PUBG Vehicles
Vehicles are essential on the larger maps, especially Miramar. Don’t hesitate to use them to navigate quickly and reach the safe zone.
Bikes and buggies are fast but expose you to enemy fire. UAZs and pickups provide more protection, and the pickup’s sturdy frame can be used as cover. If you’re ambushed and can’t escape, position the pickup between yourself and the attacker. Jump out and use the vehicle as a shield. If your vehicle is heavily damaged, use it to draw the enemy away from your position before it explodes.
Lone Wolf gets the Chicken Dinner
Dropping into popular landing zones like The School, Military base, or Pecado is thrilling but risky. You might get eliminated quickly or have to fight for a long time, putting your team at a disadvantage.
Consider dropping in less-populated areas. You can gather gear and avoid unnecessary engagements, increasing your chances of survival. This is particularly important for squads, as having all four members alive and equipped late-game offers a significant advantage.
Adapt & Survive
The most important advice is to adapt and survive.
Evaluate each situation, make the best decision, and execute it. Don’t be afraid to retreat if you’re outmatched or in a bad tactical position. If you’re not a skilled shooter, consider camping in buildings or avoiding direct confrontation. Don’t be afraid to crawl and hide if necessary. Every kill counts, and winning the game often comes down to staying alive.
Remember, the chicken dinner is the ultimate goal!
