Where is the strange slot located?
If you open your character menu, you will find your loadout on the left side and your equipment on the right. There are 10 different slots where you can use equipment such as pants, helmets and the like. But the last slot always remains empty.
A player on Reddit wanted to know what this slot is good for, because he hasn’t found a suitable item yet. The same question has come up several times in the past. However, the answers of the community are often not very helpful.

The first and most upvoted response on Reddit is “pocket sand.” Another player explains that you can use a worm riding hook here. A third explains that it must be a slot for Zendaya.
All the answers are actually nonsense. By the way, Zendaya is the actress of Chani in the new Dune movies.
What is the slot good for?
Currently, you can’t use the slot on your character at all and several players explain why: It’s a placeholder that should play a role in the future. In an earlier version of the game, you should be able to use a backpack here, but this was probably removed again due to many bugs. For example, someone writes, “the developers said it was there to ‘secure the future’.”
Another player adds (via Reddit.com):
Supposedly (so I heard) this was a slot for backpacks from an earlier version of the game. However, they didn’t work properly/in a way that Funcom liked, so the backpacks were removed and replaced with vehicle storage instead, but the slot was left.
It is rumored that the backpacks could reappear in a future update/DLC.
In an older thread, it is said that the slot is for an item that is related to a supposedly upcoming third faction: the Fremen. The item for this slot is then there to hide you from other players like with the trapdoor from the movies.
A player wanted to film a bug in Dune: Awakening. Instead, he discovered a flying sandworm that definitely doesn’t belong there. Because the huge and very dangerous worms belong in the desert sand and not in the sky.
