Getting Started
Understanding the Attack skill in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is crucial for effective combat. It’s not just about melee weapon damage, but about attack accuracy. Higher Attack levels improve your average damage output by increasing your chances of hitting your target rather than missing. Gear choices significantly impact your training experience. Always prioritize the highest-level scimitar available, supplemented by an Amulet of Power. Don’t forget essential supplies like food to sustain your training sessions.

Levels 1 to 20
Early attack training focuses on easily accessible monsters. Lumbridge’s cows and goblins are popular options due to their low defense. These are good starting targets, especially around the home teleport. However, for consistent progression beyond level 10, consider the monks west of Edgeville. These offer a slightly more challenging experience but are very efficient until level 20. Alternatively, giant rats in the Lumbridge swamp can also be effective for levels 1-20. Choose the location that best suits your playstyle and available time.
Levels 20 to 40
Several options are ideal for this level range. For those near Lumbridge, giant frogs in the swamp present a consistent challenge. Note that they are spread out, so some movement is needed. World hopping to find a less crowded world can increase efficiency. Alternatively, Barbarians in the Barbarian village west of Varrock offer a different experience. Barbarians are multi-combat, allowing simultaneous attacks by other players. This can be an important learning point for the game’s mechanics. The village also offers a bank and fishing opportunities for gathering resources.
Levels 40 to 60
Hill giants in the Edgeville dungeon are often a top choice for this range. However, be aware that they are formidable opponents. Zombies and Flesh crawlers in the second level of the Stronghold of Security are viable options if you are a lower combat level or need a slightly less demanding challenge. Their weaker combat stats are beneficial to lower skill players.
Level 60+
Beyond level 60, various strategies emerge, depending on your goals and preferences. Ogress warriors in the Corsair Cove Dungeon south of Yanille present a strong loot opportunity, including gear, seeds, and gems. They are a good choice to further improve combat and increase GP. Alternatively, the Wilderness Greater Demons, if you have adequate prayer, offer high exp/hour, while minimizing effort, though be wary of other players in the wilderness. Lastly, giant spiders in the Stronghold of Security provide an excellent exp/hour. Prayer and/or strong defenses are essential with this choice.
Remember to continually adapt your strategy based on your character’s level and playstyle. These recommendations serve as a starting point; adjust them according to the available monsters, your current gear, and overall experience in the game. Happy training!
