How to Get Clutch Claw in Monster Hunter World
The Clutch Claw is an essential tool in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, adding a new layer of strategy and dynamism to combat. To unlock this powerful gadget, you’ll need to complete a simple quest called “Learning the Clutch.” This quest can be found in the Smithy or by checking the Optional Missions on the Quest Board.
The objective of the quest is to defeat a Great Jagras multiple times using specific Clutch Claw techniques. Don’t worry about messing up, as the quest only progresses after you’ve successfully used the correct moves. Once completed, you’ll have access to the Clutch Claw and its various abilities.
How to Use the Clutch Claw in MHW Iceborne
The Clutch Claw functions like an extension of the Slinger, allowing hunters to grapple onto a monster and execute a variety of maneuvers. Here’s a quick guide to the Clutch Claw controls on each platform:
| Platform | Aim | Fire | Weapon Attack | Claw Shot | Flinch Shot | |—|—|—|—|—|—| | PS4 | C | RMB | RMB | LMB | MB4 | | Xbox | L2 | О | △ | О | R2 | | PC | LT | B | Y | B | RT |
The core of the Clutch Claw’s functionality lies in the combination of Claw Shot and Flinch Shot. Targeting the monster’s face with the Claw Shot (L2/LT + Circle) will allow you to grapple onto it and utilize various actions. The Claw Attack can alter the monster’s direction, while the Flinch Shot, consuming all Slinger Ammo, will send the monster flying into a trap, wall, or other obstacle, inflicting massive damage. It’s crucial to manage your stamina effectively to maximize the impact of these maneuvers.
Claw Attack, Weapon Attack, Flinch Shot
Once successfully grappled onto a monster, you have three options at your disposal: Claw Attack, Weapon Attack, and Flinch Shot.
MH World Clutch Claw: Claw Attacks
Claw Attacks are executed by pressing LMB/B/О while grappled onto a monster. On the monster’s head, the Claw Attack will force the monster to turn its head, making it a vital tool in combination with Flinch Shot.
MH World Iceborne: How to Do Weapon Attacks Using Clutch Claw
Weapon Attacks are performed by pressing RMB/Y/△ while grappled. The effectiveness of these attacks varies based on the weapon you are using. Light weapons like Dual Blades, Sword and Shield, and Light Bowgun can be used to drop Slinger Ammo and wound a monster’s part after repeated attacks, while Heavy weapons like Great Sword and Hammer can only wound a monster’s part.
Wounding a monster’s part offers a significant advantage, reducing the likelihood of deflecting attacks and increasing the damage dealt, making it a valuable strategy, especially when utilizing the Weakness Exploit skill.
A wounded part will have a distinct appearance, featuring visible damage and pointy marks appearing when attacked.
Take the Monster By the Helm Using Fling Shots
Fling Shots are activated by pressing MB4/R2/RT and are most effective when used on the monster’s head. Fling Shots cause the monster to rush forward in the direction it’s facing, leading to significant damage if it collides with another monster, a wall, or a cliff. This technique can inflict over 1,000 damage, knocking the monster down and allowing for follow-up attacks.
Remember to ensure that you have Slinger Ammo available before attempting a Fling Shot.
Getting the Hang of It
Mastering the Clutch Claw requires practice and experience. Start by experimenting with its abilities on Low Rank and High Rank quests that are safe enough to practice without encountering too much difficulty. Familiarize yourself with each maneuver and learn how to best utilize them in different situations.
With persistence, you’ll soon be able to weave the Clutch Claw into your combat strategy, maximizing damage and controlling the flow of battle like a seasoned veteran.
