What is the FieldSENSE Game System in Madden NFL 23?
FieldSENSE is a new animation system that impacts every position in Madden NFL 23. This means more than just improved graphics, it affects everything from how tackles work to how players move and react. It is essentially a new way for the game to process player movement and interactions, creating a more realistic and engaging experience.
Four New Control Mechanisms for FieldSense:
The FieldSENSE system brings four main new control mechanics to the game:
- Hit Everything
- Skill-Based Passing
- 360° Cuts
- WR vs. DB Battles
Hit Everything
Hit Everything is a new defensive mechanic that provides players with greater control over tackling and collisions. It adds over 3,500 new animations and introduces six key components to tackle, hit, and collide more realistically:
- Piling
- Standing Tackle
- Hitting Block
- Mid-Air Knockout
- Attaching Block
These mechanics allow defenders to stop from any position in any matchup, making defensive coverage a whole new experience.
Skill-Based Passing
Skill-Based Passing aims to give quarterbacks more control over their throws. It introduces a new pass meter that indicates power and trajectory, allowing for pinpoint accuracy and strategic passing options. Players can now:
- Guide receivers to open areas.
- Place the ball precisely for specific catches.
- Execute throws like back-and-shoulder passes, corner fades, and deep routes.
This opens up new offensive possibilities in Madden NFL 23, giving quarterbacks greater control and flexibility.
360° Cuts
360° Cuts provide players with more control over ball carriers, utilizing both the Left Stick and LT/L2 to execute precise cuts and gain yards. Players can now make cuts in any direction, giving them the flexibility to find the perfect lane for the ball carrier.
This new system replaces the limited options of hard cuts and fillets, offering a more dynamic and responsive experience.
WR vs. DB Battles
WR vs. DB Battles are significantly enhanced with FieldSense. This includes:
- Branching WR releases and cuts.
- Defensive backpresses and counters.
- Defensive evasion mechanic.
These new features make positional battles more realistic, allowing receivers to utilize multiple releases and cuts, and defenders to apply pressure and evade tackles. These features are available in all game modes, but are especially crucial for player-locked modes like Face of the Franchise: The League and Squads.
The FieldSENSE system is a major improvement in gameplay compared to previous versions, but is exclusive to next-gen consoles. While this may disappoint some fans, the new features add depth and realism to the gameplay, making Madden NFL 23 a more engaging experience for players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
