Lost Ark Valtan Phase 1: Full Legion Raid Guide

Valtan stands as Lost Ark’s inaugural Legion Raid, presenting a formidable yet rewarding challenge in its Western release. Conquering this content, particularly Phase 1, grants access to valuable Legendary gear crafting materials, Relic accessories, Gold, and essential honing items. Additionally, a bonus chest can be purchased for extra rewards using in-game currency.

This guide focuses on preparing you for and successfully navigating Valtan Phase 1, ensuring your team’s triumph.

Required Item Level

To embark on the Valtan Legion Raid, meeting the minimum item level is critical for both damage output and survivability. For those tackling the Normal Difficulty, an item level of 1415 is necessary. Higher stakes demand greater preparation, with the Hard Difficulty requiring an item level of 1445. Exceeding these thresholds not only makes the fight more manageable but also significantly contributes to your party’s success, allowing for smoother execution of mechanics and quicker boss elimination. Ensure your gear is honed and optimized before entering the raid to stand the best chance.

Sidereal Skills

A unique feature of Legion Raids, Sidereal skills offer powerful assistance from three legendary figures: Thirain, Wei, and Balthorr. The party leader activates these skills once the Sidereal gauge is fully charged. Strategic deployment of these abilities is crucial for overcoming specific challenges within the raid. Understanding each Sidereal’s unique contribution allows your team to maximize their impact at pivotal moments in the fight, whether it’s for burst damage, crucial stagger, or vital damage mitigation.

Thirain: Activated with Ctrl+Z, Thirain delivers immense damage, making him ideal for pushing phases or targeting weak points when the boss exposes them. His power can significantly accelerate the fight.

Wei: When you press Ctrl+X, Wei unleashes a massive stagger attack. He is indispensable for mechanics requiring high stagger checks, helping to interrupt dangerous boss abilities and create windows for your team to deal damage safely.

Balthorr: Using Ctrl+C summons Balthorr, who creates a large area-of-effect zone. Allies standing within this zone receive a substantial damage reduction buff, providing a critical defensive cooldown for surviving heavy hits or raid-wide attacks.

Battle Items to Prepare

Effective use of battle items can turn the tide of a challenging encounter. For Valtan Phase 1, specific consumables are highly recommended to counteract boss mechanics and optimize your team’s performance. Preparing these items beforehand is a mark of a ready raider and can prevent unnecessary wipes, contributing significantly to a successful clear. Always check your inventory before queuing to ensure you have a full stock.

  • Whirlwind Grenade: Essential for stagger checks, these grenades inflict a high amount of stagger damage, helping to interrupt boss mechanics or break down their defenses. Every player should carry these.
  • Sacred Charm / Panacea: Both items are vital for cleansing the potent bleed debuff applied by the Red Wolf. This debuff stacks and deals continuous damage, so having a reliable way to remove it is paramount for survival.
  • Time Stop Potion: A last-resort defensive tool, the Time Stop Potion grants temporary invulnerability. It’s excellent for surviving otherwise fatal mechanics, mispositions, or specific raid-wide attacks where other mitigation isn’t sufficient.

Stages You Go through in Valtan Phase 1

Valtan Phase 1 unfolds through a series of distinct stages, each marked by the boss’s remaining health bars and unique mechanics. Understanding this progression is key to coordinating your team’s efforts and anticipating upcoming challenges. Each transition demands adaptability and precise execution to avoid catastrophic wipes. A clear roadmap of the fight’s flow helps your party stay one step ahead.

  • 50 Health Bar: The initial encounter against the formidable Purple Wolf.
  • 45 Health Bar: The Purple Wolf splits into two separate entities: the Red Wolf and the Blue Wolf.
  • 30 Health Bar: The first crucial Orb Phase, requiring precise positioning and stagger.
  • Following the Orb Phase: A return to battling the Blue Wolf and Red Wolf, with a slight variation in mechanics.
  • 15 Health Bar: The second and more intense Orb Phase, demanding even greater coordination.
  • For the remainder of the fight: The boss reverts to the single, powerful Purple Wolf form.

Purple Wolf:

The initial segment of Valtan Phase 1 features the single Purple Wolf. At this stage, the boss primarily engages with a variety of basic attack patterns without any complex, wipe-inducing mechanics. Players should focus on learning its fundamental movements, identifying counter opportunities, and maintaining consistent damage. This phase serves as a warm-up, allowing the party to build Sidereal gauge and establish a comfortable rhythm before the more intricate challenges begin. Prioritize dodging clearly telegraphed attacks and maximizing your damage windows to push the boss into its next form efficiently.

Red Wolf and Blue Wolf:

Upon reaching 45 health bars, the Purple Wolf undergoes a transformation, splitting into two distinct entities: the Red Wolf and the Blue Wolf. It’s crucial for all party members to quickly move away from the boss during this transformation animation, as it delivers significant damage upon completion. A critical mechanic in this phase is keeping the two wolves separated. If they are too close to each other, both bosses will receive substantially reduced damage, making the fight much longer and more dangerous. Therefore, your team must immediately split to draw them to opposite ends of the arena.

Red Wolf

The Red Wolf introduces a dangerous bleed debuff. This debuff can stack multiple times, inflicting continuous damage over 30 seconds, and rapidly drain a player’s health if not managed. It’s imperative that players assigned to the Red Wolf, or anyone affected, carry Sacred Charms or Panaceas to cleanse this effect. Ignoring the bleed will quickly overwhelm healers and can lead to unnecessary deaths. Prioritize debuff removal to sustain the fight effectively while dealing damage to this menace.

Blue Wolf

When the Blue Wolf appears, a special buff mechanic comes into play. Random party members will receive a unique buff, allowing them to deal damage to the Blue Wolf. Players without this buff should instead focus their attacks on the Red Wolf. Coordination is key: typically, the party splits into two groups, with one drawing the Red Wolf to the north and the other leading the Blue Wolf south. This separation ensures both bosses take full damage. Once the Blue Wolf has sustained enough damage, it will disappear, allowing the entire party to regroup and focus fire on the remaining Red Wolf.

Orb Phase:

The Orb Phase at 30 health bars is a major wipe mechanic if not executed perfectly. The Red Wolf vanishes, reappearing in the arena’s center. It then summons eight orbs around itself in alternating red and blue patterns. Before the fight, players should assign positions, often starting from the 1 o’clock position clockwise, with high stagger classes typically taking the first few spots. Players must collect these orbs in the correct, predetermined order. Failure to do so will instantly wipe the raid. Immediately after collecting an orb, the party must unleash all available stagger skills and items, especially Whirlwind Grenades, on the boss. The raid leader should consider using a Sidereal skill like Wei during this phase to maximize stagger damage and ensure the mechanic is completed successfully.

Blue Wolf and Red Wolf Again:

After successfully completing the first Orb Phase, Valtan’s two wolf forms reappear, but with a crucial twist in their mechanics. Initially, the Blue Wolf emerges, followed shortly by the Red Wolf rejoining the fray. Similar to their first appearance, separating these bosses remains paramount to prevent their shared damage reduction buff. However, the targeting mechanism for damage is reversed this time. Players who receive the distinct yellow buff must now direct their attacks towards the Red Wolf, while those without any special buff should focus their damage on the Blue Wolf. Maintaining clear communication and proper positioning to keep the wolves apart is vital during this renewed split phase.

Orb Phase Again:

At 15 health bars remaining, the challenging Orb Phase returns. This iteration is largely similar to the first, but with a critical addition: after the boss is successfully staggered, it immediately unleashes a series of attack waves across the entire map as it recovers. Players must be prepared to dodge these waves immediately after delivering the final stagger. An alternative strategy to assigning individual positions is for all party members, except the raid leader, to stack at the 6 o’clock position. The raid leader then positions themselves below the boss, activates a Sidereal skill, moves north to collect the first orb, and draws all subsequent orbs away until they despawn. As the orbs follow the leader, the rest of the party rushes to stagger the boss, ensuring a clean execution without the need for complex pre-assigned routes.

Purple Wolf:

In the final stretch of Phase 1, the boss reverts to its single Purple Wolf form. This version of the Purple Wolf incorporates various attack patterns from both the Red and Blue Wolves, making it a dynamic and unpredictable opponent. Additionally, a new crucial mechanic emerges: the boss will randomly fear one player. If you are targeted, it is critical to immediately ping your location to alert your teammates. The Purple Wolf will then teleport to your position, initiating a short “impermanent” mechanic. During this brief window, the rest of your party must focus their damage on the boss. Failure to stagger Valtan within the time limit will result in the sacrificed death of the feared player, potentially leading to a raid wipe if not addressed swiftly.
