Upgrade Weapons & Gear in Lords of the Fallen

Upgrading Weapons, Shields, Umbral Lamp, and Sanguinarix

In Lords of the Fallen, you can upgrade your weapons, shields, Umbral Lamp, and Sanguinarix to increase their effectiveness and provide you with an advantage in combat. This guide will explain how to upgrade each item, where to find the necessary materials, and which one to prioritize.

How Do you Upgrade Your Weapons and Items?

To upgrade your weapons, shields, Umbral Lamp, and Sanguinarix, you need to bring the required materials to specific NPCs in Skyrest. Each character is responsible for a different category of upgrades:

  • Gerlinde the Blacksmith (room on the right side of the Skyrest Vestige): Upgrading Weapons and Shields
  • Molhu (room on the western section of the Skyrest Vestige): Upgrading Umbral Lamp
  • Pieta (right next to the Skyrest Vestige on the left side): Upgrading Sanguinarix

To access these NPCs, you may need to meet certain conditions, like freeing Gerlinde from her prison cell in Pilgrim’s Perch. You also need to exhaust all dialogue options with each character before they will allow you to upgrade your items.

Upgrading Weapons and Shields

Weapons and shields are essential for combat in Lords of the Fallen. Upgrading them will increase their damage output and defensive capabilities. You can bring weapons and shields up to +10, except for boss weapons, which can only be upgraded to +5.

Here are the materials needed to upgrade weapons and shields, and where to find them:

  • Small Deralium Fragment: 0 to +3 (Found by defeating enemies and bosses)
  • Regular Deralium Nuggets: 0 to +5 (Found by defeating enemies and bosses, particularly Fire Sword Pirates in the Burning City of Crath)
  • Large Deralium Shards: 0 to +9 (Found by defeating enemies and bosses, particularly Holy Bulwark Enemies in the Chamber of Lies)
  • Deralium Chunk: 0 to +10 (Found by defeating enemies and bosses, particularly Adyr)

In addition to upgrading their level, you can also equip runes to your weapons. These unique stones can provide additional benefits, such as increased damage, poison, stun, and life steal. Gerlinde offers basic runes for sale, and you can acquire more powerful ones by exploring the world and defeating enemies.

Upgrading Umbral Lamp

The Umbral Lamp is a crucial item that allows you to enter the Umbral Realm, clear certain obstacles, and gain additional combat abilities. You can upgrade the Umbral Lamp twice using Antediluvian Chisels, which you can find in the Umbral Realm.

Upgrading the Umbral Lamp will:

  • Increase your Soul Flay charges
  • Provide new abilities
  • Increase your resistance to Dredge
  • Unlock additional Umbral Eyes sockets

Here are the locations of the Antediluvian Chisels:

  • Lower Calrath Alehouse (same room as the Vestige of Lydia the Numb Witch)
  • Redcopse Windmill (same room as the Vestige of Marco the Axe)
  • Hallowed Brothers Leprosarium (same room as the Kitchen Seedling)

You can equip various Umbral Eyes to the sockets of the Umbral Lamp, each providing different benefits. Some of the available eyes include:

  • Eye of the Firebrand: Increases the damage of Soul Flay Attacks
  • Eye of the Warder: Improves damage mitigation from Dread Attacks
  • Eye of the Umbra: Conjures a spectral companion to fight with you
  • Eye of the Guardian: Conjures a protective dome
  • Eye of the Soulseeker: Increases the range of Soul Flay Attacks

Upgrading Sanguinarix

Sanguinarix is an accessory that increases your healing abilities. You can upgrade it five times using Saintly Quintessence, which you can find in the Umbral Realm.

Upgrading Sanguinarix will increase its healing effectiveness and charges.

Here are the locations of the Saintly Quintessence:

  • Defiled Sepulchre (after defeating the Corrupted Penitent enemies)
  • Pilgrim’s Perch (same room as Scourge Sister Delyth)
  • Kinrangr Fief (below the small nook after jumping down after fighting the miniboss)
  • Chamber of Lies (same room as the Vestige of Marco the Axe)
  • Redcopse Windmill (same room as the Vestige of Lydia, the Numb Witch)
  • Hallowed Brothers Leprosarium (same room as the Kitchen Seedling)
  • Skyrest Bridge (same room as the Vestige of Adyr)
  • Lower Calrath Alehouse (same room as the Vestige of Lydia the Numb Witch while in the Umbral Realm)
  • Ashborn’s Fortress (same room as the Vestige of Adyr, while in the Umbral Realm)
  • Withered Crypt (same room as the Vestige of Marco the Axe while in the Umbral realm)
  • Hallowed Brothers’ tomb (same room as the Kitchen Seedling while in the Umbral Realm)

Which One to Upgrade First?

Prioritize upgrading your weapons first, as they are essential for dealing damage in combat. Next, upgrade the Umbral Lamp, as it provides access to various abilities and makes exploring the Umbral Realm more manageable. Finally, upgrade Sanguinarix if you are struggling to survive encounters. Upgrading your items will significantly improve your combat capabilities and help you overcome the challenges in Lords of the Fallen.
