Noxus Update: Boots, Turrets, & Atakhan Explained

New LoL Tier 3 Boots Explanation

The latest League of Legends update brings significant changes with the “Welcome to Noxus” season. A major addition is the introduction of Tier 3 boots, offering enhanced movement and utility. These aren’t simply purchased; they require specific conditions to unlock, adding a new layer of strategic depth to itemization. Understanding how to obtain and utilize these boots can be a game-changer.

Feats of Strength

Upgrading to Tier 3 boots is tied to a new mechanic called “Feats of Strength.” Only one team can unlock this upgrade. It revolves around securing early game objectives. Success in achieving these feats grants your team the opportunity to enhance their boots, providing a noticeable advantage. This system encourages early aggression and objective control.

  • First Blood: Secure the first kill of the game.
  • First Tower: Destroy the first tower on the map.
  • First Three Epic Monsters: Successfully defeat three Epic monsters. (Drakes, Rift Herald, and Voidgrubs).

Securing two of the three awards a buff and the first upgrade of your boots, players can only get Tier 3 versions after winning the Feats of Strength and owning at least two Legendary items.

Atakhan Epic Monster

A new Epic Monster, Atakhan, arrives with the “Welcome to Noxus” update. This monster spawns at the 20-minute mark. The Baron Nashor’s spawn time shifts to 25 minutes. Atakhan appears only once per game and awards a permanent buff to the team that defeats it. Void Grub spawns remain unaffected. Atakhan’s introduction aims to create more mid-game objective conflict.

Two Forms: Ruinous and Voracious

Atakhan has two possible forms upon spawning: Ruinous and Voracious. The form it takes depends on the pace and intensity of the game. The Ruinous form appears in games with high activity and frequent clashes, while the Voracious form is more likely in slower, less volatile games. Each form grants a different, powerful buff to the team that slays it.

  • Ruinous: Enhances all Epic Monster rewards and buffs. Killing it also spawns Blood Petals and Blood Roses.
  • Voracious: Grants a one-time “instant rebirth” buff, allowing the killer to respawn instantly at the fountain upon death.

The addition of Atakhan and its two unique forms creates more strategic depth in the mid-game, forcing teams to adapt their strategies based on the monster’s form and the current state of the game. This adds excitement and complexity to objective control.
