Jedi: Survivor Combat Stances Explained

Evolving Cal

Cal Kestis has grown. In Jedi: Survivor, five years have passed since the events of Fallen Order. Cal has become a more confident and skilled Jedi Knight. Respawn wanted this growth to be reflected not just in the story, but in his combat as well. Cal starts the game with three lightsaber stances: Single Blade, Double-Bladed, and Dual Blade. The developers wanted to give players a wider range of options from the beginning.

Dual, Single, and Double Bladed Stances

The Dual Blade stance was the starting point for the new stance design philosophy. The team was familiar with the roles of Single Blade and Double-Bladed stances, so they focused on making Dual Blades feel unique. They describe it as a more technical stance, offering greater combat nuance but requiring a higher level of skill.

  • Dual Blade: Faster attacks, wide range of combos, but takes more damage. Can dodge or guard cancel attack startup animations.
  • Single Blade: All-rounder stance with medium range, power, and speed. Special ability is a strong thrusting attack that can be charged for heavy stamina damage.
  • Double-Bladed: Close range damage, effective against groups of enemies. Slower attack animations, so use it carefully against faster enemies.

Which Stance Are You Most Excited to Use in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor?

It’s time to choose your weapon! Which stance will you use to take on the challenges of Jedi: Survivor? Vote for your favorite:

  • Single Blade: The reliable, all-around choice.
  • Double-Bladed: A crowd-control master.
  • Dual Blades: High-risk, high-reward.
  • Cross Guard: Powerful, but slow and risky.
  • Blaster: For a new approach to Jedi combat.

The Cross Guard and Blaster Stance

Two new stances join the fray: The Cross Guard and the Blaster stance. The Cross Guard stance utilizes a hilted lightsaber, similar to Kylo Ren’s. The Blaster stance, as its name suggests, allows Cal to utilize both a lightsaber and a blaster.

  • Cross Guard: High risk, high reward. Deals the most damage but is slow and has minimal range.
  • Blaster: Offers range and a new combat style. Uses lightsaber to replenish blaster ammo, encouraging both close-range and ranged combat.

Stance Skill Trees

Each stance has its own skill tree, allowing you to customize your combat style. The team prioritized making each skill tree fit the personality and role of the stance.

You can only equip two stances at a time, but you can switch them at any meditation point. This allows you to adapt your playstyle to the challenges you face, whether it’s taking on a group of enemies or facing a powerful boss.

With a total of five stances and three skill trees (Force powers, survival skills, and stances), Jedi: Survivor offers a variety of ways to build your own Cal Kestis. It’s clear that the team at Respawn is committed to delivering a deeper and more engaging combat experience in Jedi: Survivor, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Cal.
