In the “Campfire Chat” livestream, the developers gave a first glimpse of Season 8 of Diablo 4 — including exciting new features. One of them allows you to take over the powers of defeated bosses and use them to strengthen your builds, giving players even more incentive to Buy Diablo 4 Gold and optimize their characters for the challenges ahead.

On the evening of March 7, 2025, the developers of Diablo 4 talked about the upcoming Season 8 in their “Campfire Chat” livestream on YouTube. Previously, Diablo boss Rod Fergusson announced that the current Season 7 will be extended by two weeks because the update requires more development time than originally planned.

What is this feature? The new mechanic in Season 8 is the boss powers. You get the special powers of the hideout bosses after defeating them for the first time. You can then use the skills for your builds. According to Blizzard, there will be a total of 24 different bosses whose skills you can take over.

You can test the new mechanic on the Season 8 PTR as early as next week. The test server will be available to players on Battle.net from March 11 to March 18. The preload is scheduled to start on Monday.

24 bosses give you new powers

What are these powers? In Season 8, you can take revenge on the toughest enemies and finish them off with their own attacks. You can dig through the ground like Duriel dodge, spawn a pool of blood like Lord Zir, or kill enemies with Lilith’s spike wave.

How do I use the new powers? As soon as you kill one of the hideout bosses, you get a new power. You can find all boss powers in an extra tab in your inventory – exactly where the witch powers are located in Season 7. Each boss power has two effects – a main power and a modifier power, which activate depending on which slot you use it in.

You have one slot for a main power and 3 slots for the modifier powers. The 4 chosen boss powers are active as soon as you put them in the slots. The main power boosts your builds, while the modifiers push the main power.

Belial as the new “Pinnacle Boss”

Who do I get the powers from? You get the powers from all the hideout bosses you kill in Season 8. There are a total of 24 different bosses, divided into three categories:

  • World bosses, such as Knorzer and Ashava
  • Hideout bosses (formerly “ladder” bosses), such as Duriel and Andariel
  • Event bosses that spawn during a seasonal event that can appear regularly throughout Sanctuary

For the Hideout bosses, you have to be on a Torment level, the world and event bosses can basically be tackled during early leveling. The Hideout bosses are also divided into three levels: Contender, Bigger and Exalted. The larger ones include Andariel, Duriel and the Messenger of Hatred. The exalted Hideout boss is Belial, who is supposed to be a really tough guy.

With Belial, a new hideout boss comes into play, whom Blizzard had previously teased as an “old friend”. After the announcement, the community puzzled over who could be meant. In addition to Belial, Urivar and the Messenger of Hatred also appear as new bosses in Season 8.

You will also no longer need boss mats to summon – but you can use them to open chests for more loot after the boss fight. The new bosses will remain in the game after that, as will the new division of the hideout bosses into stages and the changes to the summoning system.

On top of that, the bosses should then have more health, so that they no longer simply fall over at the high levels if you fight them with strong builds. Currently, the most powerful builds, such as the Bloodwave Necro, can easily oneshot even the toughest bosses.
