World of Warcraft has revealed the first big details about housing. We have all the information about the new feature for you.
When Blizzard announced a few months ago that World of Warcraft would finally get housing, the anticipation was great. But at the same time, there was also a lot of uncertainty, because more than a first trailer was not released. Now Blizzard has published a much longer blog entry and has already revealed many design ideas of the housing and also revealed some details.
They talked about the wishes but also concerns of the community—such as whether there are monthly costs for the house, whether you can have neighbors, and whether there will be a cash shop. Buy WOW Gold to enhance your in-game experience and stay ahead in the game.
Costs, rent, place to live
One concern of the players was that you could lose the right to your own house or that the places – as in some other MMORPGs – are limited.
The developers have found clear words here:
- Everyone should be able to have a house, there is no limit.
- You have houses “forever”. You don’t have to pay monthly rent and no one can take away your place of residence if you are inactive.
- The entry-level price is said to be cheap. Everyone should be able to participate in the feature if they want to – so a house is cheap to buy.
There are two areas where you can live
Blizzard knows that the desire for as much freedom as possible in the choice of housing is important, but they had to agree on a compromise here. Because either you concentrate on a few zones and put a lot of work into them and do them really well – or you do a lot of zones, which would affect the quality.
That’s why the developers decided that there would be a place for each of the two factions where the “neighborhood” is located.
- Alliance characters can choose a house in an environment inspired by Elwynn, Westfall, and Duskwood.
- Horde characters move into a shelter whose surroundings are based on Durotar, its coast and Azshara.
Neighborhoods – How big is it all?
Your houses are not individual buildings that are loaded separately as instances. Instead, each house is located in a neighborhood that consists of around 50 plots. This means that you always have potential neighbors in your area who you can invite into your house or from whom you can get suggestions and inspiration for your own decoration.
Especially for roleplayers, this should be a real celebration and make neighborhoods a new hot spot for many RP events.
If you have a neighborhood next to Xxshadowroxxorxx and other unpronounceable names – don’t worry. You can move and build your house in another neighborhood, as long as there is a free space there.
However, you can also plan a neighborhood with your friends, guild members, or members of your communities.
The Cash Shop Thing
Because it’s a big topic in the community, Blizzard probably wanted to address it quickly so that there would be clarity:
Yes, there will be decorations for housing in the cash shop.
However, Blizzard emphasizes that the vast majority of decorations will be available through the game and without any real money. The options in the cash shop will be offered there to a similar extent as is the case with mounts, toys or transmogs. Most of it will be easy to find in the game.
On the one hand, this causes disillusionment, on the other hand, you already have an idea of what to expect for the player base.
A feature that stays and is never finished
Finally, Blizzard emphasizes that housing is a feature that is here to stay. It is supposed to be an “evergreen feature” that will be expanded over several patches and expansions. One should never consider it “finished”. New systems and extensions for housing are to be added all the time.
With this, World of Warcraft has already made it clear that most of the wishes of the community have been heard. At first glance, the feature looks exactly as most people wanted it to. Now Blizzard just has to prove that they can keep these promises.
