World of Warcraft is an MMORPG – but now a solo game. The survey clearly shows that group fans are the frighteningly small minority.

World of Warcraft is one of the biggest and most successful MMORPGs of all time. Currently, the 20th anniversary of the game is being celebrated with lots of rewards, while at the same time expensive shop offers are causing a sensation. In World of Warcraft, social bonds have always been an important part of the game – but is that still the case today? That’s what we wanted to know in a survey a few days ago. You participated in large numbers and the surprising result is:

The vast majority of you play World of Warcraft primarily as a solo game.

What you think about World of Warcraft

More than 1,000 of you took part in our survey. You made this selection:

  • 44% play WoW mostly solo and only occasionally in a group (502 votes).
  • 29% play WoW exclusively alone and never with others (335 votes).

Together, this already results in a majority of 73% who play WoW mostly or completely alone – almost 3 out of 4 players.

  • 18% play WoW mixed – sometimes alone and sometimes as a group (210 votes)

So a good 5th person is mixed and can make friends with content that is intended for groups and solo players.

  • 6% play WoW mostly in a group and only occasionally solo (67 votes).
  • 2% play WoW exclusively in a group and never alone (27 votes).

Together, this means that only 8% act primarily as a group. This means that less than one in 12 people experiences World of Warcraft predominantly as a group.

WoW – “Only” a solo game with optional group content?

Hardly anyone seemed to have expected the result to be so clear. It is still a mystery to some how an MMORPG can trigger such a great interest among solo fans.

What is clear, however, is that Blizzard has recognized this trend for a long time and is also serving it. Just a while ago, the developers gave tips and tricks on how to never have to get in touch with other people.

Of course, this does not mean that the group content is no longer served at all. There will continue to be new dungeons, raids, and other events that are primarily designed for groups. But Blizzard is adding more and more options to be able to do all these activities on your own – for example through follower dungeons or the Story Mode raid. For those looking to enhance their gameplay, Buy WOW Gold to stay well-equipped for these challenges, whether playing solo or with friends.

Would you have thought that the result would be so clear and that World of Warcraft would be primarily a solo experience for most people? World of Warcraft is often more than just a game.
