The developers of New World have presented Season 8 in detail. Instead of a PvP focus, this time there is a hardcore gaming experience, a new Outpost Storm map, world boss events, and more. To gear up for the challenges ahead, don’t forget to Buy New World Coins and stay ahead in Aeternum!
What do I need to know about Season 8 of New World? After Season 7, the first season after the Aeternum reboot, was not too well received by many fans of the MMORPG due to the great focus on PvP, the next season will take a much more colorful approach.
The highlights of the “Season of the Divide”, which is scheduled to start on May 13, 2025, read as follows:
- Hardcore Seasonal World (starting in early June): New characters start on this server in a “not fallen” state and can unlock elite rewards if they manage to avoid dying. If this should happen, your alter ego will be retained, but will no longer have a chance to get these special loot.
- New Outpost Storm Map – Coral Divide: Fight for control in a dynamic sea-themed arena that focuses on vertical movement, tactical flank attacks, and fierce battles for the fort in the center.
- Unleashed Expeditions – World Bosses: In the world, you can meet 3 legendary expedition enemies with level 70 via a limited-time event that will entice you with high-quality loot.
- New Artifacts: Season 8 brings seven new artifacts.
- Hair Salon: Use Hair Salon Tokens, which you can earn in-game or purchase in the shop, to customize your appearance.
- Preview Events for New PvP Modes and Maps: The developers are also using Season 8 to test new PvP content. This time, the Flag Snatching mode, the Outpost Storm map Bone Dry, and the 3v3 arena map are on the menu.
- Seasonal Events and Bonuses: Several events are planned for Season 8 – Faction Festival: Expeditions, Fury of the Spriggan, and XP Boost events.
Furthermore, there will be technical improvements as well as adjustments for combat and comfort with the start of Season 8. You can find the full list on newworld.com.
Hardcore servers let players live on even after death
What are the exact rules of the Hardcore server? What is certain is that you can only receive the elite rewards if your freshly created character maintains his “not fallen” state, i.e. stays alive. It is also clear that a virtual death does not ban you from the new server. The official description says (via newworld.com):
Once you die, you will no longer be able to unlock the rewards for those who have
not fallen. However, your character will remain and you will find your way around the server better. Even if you fall, there are plenty of other rewards that you can collect and unlock for your account and your main characters. […]In this limited-time world with an all-new, streamlined main questline, leveling up and upgrading gear is faster than ever before. Artifact equipment caps have been removed. This allows players to increase their combat power to levels never seen before.
What does the community think of the announcement? Some New World players still don’t seem to be fans of the seasonal structure, as the already empty standard worlds only feel more deserted due to the new servers.
- DrinkYourGravy, for example, writes on Reddit: “Nobody wants seasonal servers, Amazon Games. It divides the player base and is detrimental to the game as a whole.”
- kankahsor explains on Reddit: “I’m very disappointed. The things that would bring significant improvements and that were in development before are still in development. The preview events are just irritating. Get the content out there and adjust it if necessary. Nothing in this update attacks the core problem of the missing endgame […].”
- getZlatanized also criticizes the new season on Reddit: “So realistically, all we get in S8 in terms of repeatable content is the ‘new’ OPR map. Also, a few weekends where we can really test new stuff. That’s it. Oh, and the hardcore server? Sounds stupid in New World – pass.”
However, some players are also looking forward to the new season.
- heartlessgamer writes on Reddit: “There’s a lot to like about this update, but I have no doubt that the community in general will be about it. It’s hard to be patient when there’s so much going on in the gaming market and other games are delivering more consistent results.”
- Plumpy_Gnome is happy on Reddit: “Interesting, I said so long ago that they would do hardcore for S8. I think they want the same success that WoW has with hardcore, but that’s not going to happen, should still be fun. I hope for heaven’s sake that CTF is good, this is the best PvP mode ever. Barbershop is coming much sooner than I expected, I was thinking about summer 2025, long overdue, but better late than never.”
- iDK258 is in good spirits on Reddit: “I’m never too optimistic about this developer (and the way they implement things), especially because it looks like a lot of things in season 8 are just a ‘preview’ – but I really like the stuff from S8 and in development. Hopefully I’ll be able to play the game full-time again soon.”
What do you think: Can the new season of New World attract more players to the servers again? Season 7 didn’t manage that. The reasons for this are manifold and homemade.
