TFT: Set 6.5 – What’s Coming
Teamfight Tactics’ Set 6, Gizmos & Gadgets, is nearing its end, and with it, a few familiar synergies will be saying goodbye to make way for new compositions in Set 6.5. As new units and synergies take the stage, TFT players will experience a new meta that will shift how the game is played. The next major update brings a familiar face from Riot’s Arcane series, and before diving into the new set, Tacticians can relax and participate in the annual Lunar Festival event.
The Current Set and Mechanics
Set 6 arrived on November 3, 2021, introducing new compositions like Academy, Chemtech, Clockwork, Cuddly, and more. These replaced previous traits from Set 5.5, and Tacticians quickly adapted to the changes. Set 6 also introduced the popular Double Up game mode, which allows players to team up and fight other teams in a 2v2v2v2 format. Tacticians share the same health points, meaning when one teammate dies, the other is eliminated as well.
However, what truly revolutionized Set 6 was the introduction of Hextech Augments. These augments provide unique buffs independent of synergies, significantly impacting the TFT meta and making the game more exciting and unpredictable. Here are some examples of the available Hextech Augments:

It is uncertain whether Hextech Augments will be a permanent fixture in TFT. Some may be removed or replaced as new compositions and traits arrive, making certain augments obsolete. With the arrival of Neon Nights, we may see the addition of new augments to complement the new traits and units.
Set 6.5, Neon Nights
Neon Nights will introduce two new traits: Debonair and Hextech, replacing Imperials and Academics. Hextech units activate a disruptive shockwave from the Hexcore every 12 seconds of combat. The Debonair trait is still shrouded in mystery, but it’s expected to offer unit buffs, contrasting with Hextech’s damaging trait skills.
This set marks the first appearance of Alistar in Teamfight Tactics. The Minotaur joins the Hextech unit roster alongside several other champions. Here are the champions and traits being removed and added to the game:
Removed Traits and Characters
Imperials
- Samira
- Sion
- Swain (Swain could potentially be included in the Hextech trait due to the existence of the Hextech Swain skin)
- Talon
Academy
- Garen
- Graves
- Katarina
- Leona (Leona will only be removed from the Academy trait, as she will join the Debonair roster)
- Lux
- Yone
- Yuumi
Upcoming Characters
- Silco
- Corki
- Sivir
- Lucian
- Rek’Sai
- Alistar
- Jarvan
- Sejuani
- Brand
- Kha’Zix
- Irelia
- Syndra
- Nocturne
- Gnar
- Draven
The addition of new traits and units will undoubtedly shift the current TFT meta, making it more unpredictable than ever. It remains to be seen if any new Hextech Augments will be introduced, but it’s highly likely that new augments will arrive to complement the new traits and units.
Riot aims to include every League of Legends champion in Teamfight Tactics, with champions like Gnar, Sivir, and Viego already appearing in the game. This means that future characters like Zeri will eventually enter the auto-chess game.
TFT Exclusive Character, Silco
Among the new characters joining the auto-chess game is Silco, the main villain from Arcane. Silco will be the first TFT-exclusive unit, meaning he will only appear in the auto-chess game and not in the actual League of Legends. This is because Silco has already met his demise in the series, and all League champions are still alive within their game’s lore.
Details about Silco’s abilities, unit cost, and traits are yet to be revealed. However, speculation suggests that he might be added to the Innovator or Chemtech traits due to his role in the Arcane series. Riot has hinted at the possibility of characters from outside Runeterra or the League of Legends universe appearing in the game, potentially including Valorant Agents or characters from other games.
When Will Set 6.5 Arrive?
There’s no official release date for Neon Nights yet. However, we can use the Gizmos & Gadgets Battle Pass’s end date as an indicator. The current battle pass is set to expire in 27 days, suggesting a major update around the second or third week of January, aligning with Riot’s usual practice of rotating sets every three months.
It’s worth noting that Set 6.5 will likely first appear on the PBE servers. This means that Neon Nights will arrive in live servers a little later, possibly around the third week of February. Tacticians who can’t wait for the live update can try out Neon Nights on the PBE servers, but remember that features on the PBE are subject to change and may not be permanent.
Lunar Legend Festival
Before bidding farewell to some of the most popular traits in the game, Tacticians still have time to enjoy Academy and Imperial units during the Lunar Golden Lantern event. The annual event will offer players free and purchasable cosmetics, from arenas to Little Legends.
The Lunar Legend Festival will also feature interactive events where players can chat with Little Legend NPCs in the game’s lobby. These legends will provide missions for Tacticians, offering great rewards upon completion. However, remember that TFT requires strategy and wit, and these missions will test your smarts to figure out how to complete the objectives. There are five rewards available through events and missions, so make sure to check them out! The Lunar Event will last until the end of Path 12.3.
Team compositions and sets in Teamfight Tactics are always in flux, constantly changing with the TFT meta. This is what makes the game so exciting and fun to play, with endless opportunities and gameplay for each set. Enjoy the Gizmos & Gadgets set while it lasts, because Neon Nights is just around the corner!
