Starfield 1.8.86 Update Brings DLSS Support and Edible Food

Starfield’s latest update, version 1.8.86, brings a raft of new features and improvements for PC players, including long-awaited DLSS support and the ability to eat food without having to pick it up first.

FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS

DLSS Support

This update introduces DLSS support for PC players, finally allowing those with compatible Nvidia graphics cards to take advantage of DLSS Super Resolution, Deep Learning Anti-aliasing (DLAA), Nvidia Reflex Low Latency, and DLSS Frame Generation. This was a highly requested feature, and its inclusion is a significant boost for Starfield’s performance and visual quality on PC.

Eat On Sight

Another notable change is the addition of a “consume” button for food and drinks. Now, players can simply eat or drink items directly from the world, saving the time and hassle of picking them up, adding them to their inventory, and then consuming them. This is a welcome change for those who want to enjoy a quick snack while exploring the galaxy.

Performance and Stability

  • Addressed various memory-related issues and leaks, improving overall system stability.
  • Implemented GPU performance optimizations, particularly benefiting higher-end graphics cards.
  • Enhanced the renderer threading model, optimizing CPU usage especially on high-end systems.

  • Fixed a bug where in-progress skill challenges could stop progressing after reaching the Unity and starting a new game.

  • Added options to adjust Brightness and Contrast in the Display Settings menu.
  • Added HDR Brightness adjustment options for systems that support it (Xbox and Windows 11 only).
  • Fixed several materials that exhibited unintended patterns under specific conditions.
  • Resolved various visual issues related to the new Field of View (FOV) slider options.
  • Improved the appearance of eyes on crowd characters.
  • Fixed minor visual issues related to lighting, shadows, terrain, and vegetation.
  • On PC, addressed additional visual issues related to DLSS.

Quests

  • All That Money Can Buy: Fixed a rare issue where players couldn’t sit during the negotiation with Musgrove.
  • Blast Zone: Fixed a bug where the hard rocks players needed to clear out on Ngodup Tate’s land wouldn’t appear.
  • Echoes of the Past: Fixed an issue where the Grylloba Queen might be unreachable during the “Secure the Shuttle Bay” objective.
  • Eye of the Storm: Fixed a problem where player progression could be blocked due to a missing docking prompt.
  • Grunt Work: Addressed an issue where progress could appear blocked if “Supra et Ultra” was completed while returning to the Lodge during “High Price to Pay.”
  • No Sudden Moves: Fixed an issue that prevented the entrance door to the Scow ship from being opened again.
  • Operation Starseed: Fixed an issue where the key needed to exit the facility might be missing.
  • Sabotage: Fixed a bug where David Barron might be impossible to find.
  • Short Sighted: Fixed an issue where players could rarely become control-locked while talking to Vladimir.
  • The Heart of Mars: Fixed a problem preventing players from mining “The Heart of Mars.”

This update provides significant improvements to Starfield’s PC experience, addressing performance, stability, and graphical issues, as well as making the game more enjoyable and convenient with the addition of DLSS support and the eat-on-sight feature. These changes demonstrate Bethesda’s ongoing commitment to refining Starfield, making it a more immersive and satisfying game for all players.
