About the Fight
The Nex boss fight takes place in a circular arena and has five phases: Smoke, Shadow, Blood, Ice, and Zaros. This guide will break down each phase and provide tips for solo players.
Smoke Phase
Nex starts with five auto-attacks before launching a special attack. She can also use attacks that pull players towards her, stunning them and disabling protection prayers. Use Freedom to counter these pulls and reactivate your protection prayers immediately. If possible, lure Nex to the sides to avoid being dragged into her “No Escape” attack, which hits players in the middle of the arena.
When Nex reaches 160,000 life points, she summons Fumus. Eliminate Fumus as quickly as possible. If you haven’t used Freedom already, use it now to auto-attack Fumus.
Shadow Phase
Nex starts the Shadow phase with either Embrace Darkness or Shadow Slam. Immediately switch to Soul Split and use Deflect Missiles if Shadow Slam is used. If your armor is weak, Nex might chase you. Surge away to face her directly and start attacking. Keep moving and use Soul Split before the ranged attacks return.
If the bleed effect is causing problems, lure Nex to the side where Cruor is located. Then, surge back to Umbra. The Eldritch Crossbow is a great weapon for quickly reducing Nex’s health.
Blood Phase
Many consider this the toughest phase. High DPS is crucial, and you need to be fast. Nex summons two Blood Reavers. Get as much adrenaline as you can from the boss, and be wary of her healing attacks. Stay within melee range to prevent her magic attacks and avoid healing from these attacks.
Use Snipe when her siphoning ends. The best timing is when her wings are at their highest point. The siphons stop summoning Reavers at 80,000 life points. Defeat Cruor as quickly as possible to force the next phase before Nex uses another Siphon attack.
Ice Phase
This phase depends on the Blood phase’s ending. If Nex’s last attack was Blood Sacrifice, you’ll face Ice Barrage, which launches four icicles with a 3×3 range. Stay as far away from Nex as possible to avoid damage and stuns.
If the last attack was Blood Siphon, the phase starts with Ice Prison. Nex will freeze you, stunning you and disabling overhead protection prayers. Prepare Reflect or Resonance to counter attacks. Reprisal can also deflect damage back to Nex.
Start the phase near Cruor. Attack Glacies when the opportunity arises. Nex summons Glacies at 40,000 life points. Having an attack range of 7 or above helps you avoid attacks.
Zaros Phase
In the final phase, Nex activates Turmoil and heals herself to 73,333 life points. She typically starts with Soul Split and heals 2,500 life points whenever she hits a player near you. Damage is reduced by three-quarters at 2,000 damage or higher, making softcap harder to reach. Prioritize bleeds, rapid fire, and stay within melee distance.
After defeating Nex, Wrath activates. Move at least four spaces away from her within the three-second charge time to avoid being hit.
Solo Advice
Soloing Nex is significantly harder than duoing. Use the Eldritch Crossbow, as it is less affected by the damage caps. Expect roughly 20 kills per hour with this weapon.
Switch to ranged attacks in the final phase, as Nex will heavily punish melee players. A pack yak helps with food consumption. Once you’re more comfortable, switch to the shadow nihil. If you’re a melee player, use a ripper demon to utilize its passive. To maximize the amulet’s passive, use Satius’ Warhammer with a stack of 7. You can get close to this with a stack of 5.
With practice, you should be able to consistently beat Nex and get kills per hour. While duos are easier, soloing is achievable.
