In Diablo 4, you have six different classes to choose from. However, many still lack a very specific class. The community is currently busy discussing exactly this gap again and is already annoyed about what (maybe) is still to come.

Which class is it about?

Since release, veterans in particular have wanted the Paladin as a new class, simply because a holy class that plays with sword and shield is missing. Paladins already existed in Diablo 2. The idea of paladins was later continued in Diablo 3 and implemented in the Crusader. Clues to the class for Diablo 4 were found as early as 2022, including through a leak from Blizzard itself.

Rod Fergusson, General Manager of Diablo, explained in June 2024 that they preferred to create something new to match the new region in the game. This is how the Spiritborn came into play with the Vessel of Hatred expansion: a kind of remix of witch doctor, monk and Amazon:

But even after that, the calls for a Paladin class remained loud. In April 2025, Game Director Brent Gibson spoke about a new class: “Fasten your seatbelts, keep talking about the Paladin and hopefully everyone will be happy on the day we release.”

Currently, the community is again discussing this one class that they are still missing in Diablo 4 and is already getting upset about scenarios that could happen.

“Not a Paladin class, but a season of Paladin powers”

This is what the community is currently discussing about the Paladin: In a post on Reddit, fk0vi writes that Blizzard should finally give players a Paladin class. In the comments, fans are already playing through all possible scenarios in their minds. Many also believe that Blizzard is targeting the next expansion for it.

Momo616 jokingly writes: “Not a Paladin class, but a season of Paladin powers and Paladin-inspired cosmetics!” The current season is all about Horadric Powers. Before that, it was about boss powers and Season 7 was about Witch Powers. And new powers are coming to players again in winter, as the roadmap for 2025 shows.

And The-Only-Razor jokes: “Season of the holy yellow hell tide. Paladins are the new faction questline in the season. New class: A slightly faster barbarian will be called ‘Spirit Rager’ or something like that.” Diablo 4 really didn’t lack helltide-like areas. Season 7, for example, brought the Witch Tides, in which the monster density was similar to that in Hell Tide.

Other fans take the topic a little more seriously. For example, snoman298 dryly notes that there are actually quite a few usable shields in Diablo 4 – but hardly anyone uses them. And Slow_Cut_1904 answers: “I had completely forgotten that shields even existed and at first thought you were joking, lol.”

And Mamoru_of_Cake has somewhat more optimistic ideas:

Since the Spiritborn is actually just a reworked version of the Monk, I could imagine a class that combines Paladin/Blood Knight. You could decide from level 20 or 25 through a class quest whether you become a completely Paladin or Blood Knight.

Another class is also currently causing discussion among the community. Because Diablo Immortal is now getting a new class – and players are upset because it is much prettier than in Diablo 4. Because there, Blizzard has opted for an unconventional look with a compact physique, which differs greatly from “classically attractive” models.
