Last season, there were practical innovations for the Whispers and the Whispering Tree in Diablo 4. Some of these adjustments have made it into the game permanently — but of all things, the one feature that simplified the whole process is now missing for players. If you haven’t jumped in yet, now’s a great time to Buy Diablo 4 and experience the changes firsthand.

What did Blizzard promise?

On the roadmap for 2025, Blizzard announced not only seasonal features, but also permanent additions to Diablo 4. In Season 7, which ran until the end of April, “gameplay updates for whispers” came into play permanently, among other things. This included, for example:

  • A revamped layout around the Whispering Tree, so you can get from the waypoint to it faster to exchange your gifts for loot boxes.
  • Rearranged merchants with additions such as Alchemist, Armoury, Curio Merchant and Healer.
  • After the update, there were also “bequeathed” loot chests – i.e. boxes with ancestral items.

Another feature that was added to Diablo 4 in Season 7 was the Ravens of the Tree. The ravens then spawned in the “Witch Tides” and took the annoying travel back to the tree for you once you had collected 10 gifts. The feature quickly became a fan favorite – and now players miss the ravens, as they were removed with Season 8.

Players miss the ravens of the tree

Why do players miss the ravens?

The ravens saved you a lot of time and clicks when giving the gifts. As soon as you had completed 10 points through the whispering tasks, you could pick up your reward directly from the raven on site – without a detour back to the Whispering Tree.

Now, on the other hand, you have to travel to the tree again every time your score bar is full – because as long as you haven’t turned in, you can’t collect any more. And that means you have to temporarily interrupt farming for the change of territory – including loading screens.

In a post on Reddit, the community discusses which permanent “Quality of Live” improvements to the Whispers have actually remained in the game. Many agree: The ravens were one of the best features. User bza4207 writes that there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t be in the game permanently.

matthewhughes9 also agrees – especially because the constant travel back and forth without the ravens is just annoying. And DrCrustyKillz even says that the best thing about Season 7 for him was the complete Witchtide mechanic. It was much more pleasant than what was added as a new mechanic in Season 8.

In general, the mood in the Diablo 4 community is rather restrained: The new mechanics in Season 8 are boring or even frustrating for many. Some players think: Nobody wants to play this game like this.

However, now that some players have reached the endgame, there are also positive voices. Especially due to the permanent changes, especially to the hideout bosses, progress in the game suddenly feels worthwhile again.
