The new update in Diablo 4 should eliminate many of the current problems. Now this update of all things is causing crashes for players on Steam and Battle.net.

What kind of update is this? Diablo Patch 2.0.4 was released on October 29 and, according to the patch notes (via Blizzard.com), should solve many of the current problems in the game. The patch included updates for the new Spiritborn class, the Undercity of Kurast, and the mercenaries who serve as your companions. In addition, many small changes should be made and other problems fixed. Buy Diablo 4 to experience all the latest updates and improvements firsthand!

Shortly after the update reached players, however, it caused crashes on Steam and Battle.net.

Crashes instead of bug fixes

What kind of problems do the players have? Many players who play Diablo 4 on PC have significant issues with the game. Crashes occur, which for some simply happen after some time, but for many when a mob is killed. This makes Diablo 4 simply unplayable for them.

On Reddit, user Smileur reports: “I can’t kill mobs without the game crashing either.” Reddit user MrNorrie tells something similar: “Yes, exactly. I’ve played for about 5 minutes since the patch and the game has crashed twice. […]“.

How do the developers react? Adam Fletcher, Blizzard’s Global Director of Community, spoke out on X.com. There he writes: “We have received reports from some PC players who crash with version 2.0.4. The team is investigating the issue and will release an update shortly.”

A short time later, the update on the situation follows. The developers have found a so-called workaround, i.e. a workaround for players, with which the problem can be fixed. This solution is now automatically activated for all users on Steam and Battle.net.

According to the comments under the update on X.com, however, the problems do not seem to be fixed for everyone. The developers are still working on a solution to the problem.

Is there nothing you can do about the crashes? The players affected by the crashes probably don’t want to wait for a hotfix from Blizzard and take action themselves. Some of them were able to play again by turning off DLSS in the options.

If you are affected by the problem yourself, you will find the option to turn off DLSS in the options under Graphics and there in the Performance section.

When the game is up and running again, you should be able to fight your way through the hordes of enemies as normal.
