Nintendo Boosting Switch Production for Zelda Sequel

Nintendo Is Ramping Up Switch Production Ahead of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Nintendo is planning to ramp up Switch production in the next fiscal year ahead of the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Increased Production

Sources told Bloomberg that Nintendo has informed suppliers and assembly partners of its plans to increase production in financial year 2023/2024, starting from April. This comes after two years of component shortages that hindered Nintendo’s ability to meet market demand. The company previously admitted that the shortages were hurting sales.

Addressing the Shortage

  • Nintendo is finally able to overcome supply constraints and produce as many consoles as the market demands. This is largely due to the easing of component shortages.

The Switch’s Longevity

The increased production plans are unusual given the Switch’s age. The console launched in March 2017, making it almost six years old. However, with Tears of the Kingdom on the horizon, Nintendo anticipates a surge in sales.

Tears of the Kingdom’s Potential

Tears of the Kingdom is expected to be a major commercial success, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Breath of the Wild. The game has been teased by Nintendo since 2019, generating significant excitement among fans.

A Masterclass in Open-World Design

Breath of the Wild received critical acclaim, with iGV awarding it a perfect score in its review. The game was praised for its “evocative, exhilarating, and masterclass in open-world design.” Tears of the Kingdom is poised to continue the legacy of its predecessor, likely driving even greater demand for the Switch console.
