Monster Hunter Wilds: Monster Capture Guide

How to Capture Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

Steps to Capture a Monster

Capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds involves a multi-step process, shifting from combat to careful control. First, relentlessly weaken the monster through sustained attacks. Observe visual cues for vulnerability – a lowered posture, or specific behaviours. Use your Palico for additional warnings of weakened states. When the monster is significantly weakened, strategically place a trap – a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap. This is ideally positioned between you and the monster, minimizing its chance of escape.

Once the monster is trapped, swiftly administer tranquilizers. Tranq Bombs, Tranq Ammo, or Tranq Blade are the options for immobilization. The key is speed and precision, as the monster should be knocked unconscious quickly following the immobilization. If it is truly weakened, only a few Tranq bombs, or few shots with Tranq Ammo or Tranq Blade should do the trick.

Essential Tools for Capturing

Successfully capturing monsters relies on two key components: traps and tranquilizers. A variety of traps and tranquilizer options are available:

  • Traps: Shock Trap, Pitfall Trap, EZ Shock Trap, EZ Pitfall Trap.
  • Tranquilizers: Tranq Bomb, Tranq Ammo, Tranq Blade.

Each trap and tranquilizer has its own unique application. Some monsters might be more susceptible to one type of trap over another. Similarly, certain tranquilizers may be more effective against specific creatures. Traps can be strategic for holding large monsters in a small location for your tranquilizing tools to be effective.

Executing the Capture

The timing of trap placement is crucial. A good time to deploy a trap is when a monster shifts its position or moves into a new area. Lure the monster towards the trap by using your attack, or the Slinger with a Luring Pod to directly attract its attention. Position yourself to ensure the trap is strategically placed between you and the monster. This will reduce the risk of the monster escaping immediately. Maintain your position. Once the monster steps into the trap, swiftly administer the tranquilizers.

Why Capturing Is Beneficial

Capturing a monster, in contrast to simply slaying it, often yields richer rewards in terms of materials. This is a more efficient way to farm for specific rare components. Also, certain quests in the game may specifically require the capture of a monster, not just its defeat. Hence, mastering the capture mechanic is an essential gameplay skill that adds more flexibility to your hunting journey.

Understanding the optimal trap placement and using the right tranquilizers, combined with an understanding of monster behaviour and visual cues, are all crucial for successful captures. This strategic approach is key to efficiently maximizing your in-game rewards and progressing effectively in Monster Hunter Wilds. Learning to capture monsters is a valuable skill that adds depth and nuance to your gameplay experience.
