Modern Warfare 2 Season 2: Warzone & Multiplayer Changes

Warzone 2.0 Updates

Return of Resurgence

Season 2 sees the return of Resurgence mode with a brand new map, Ashika Island. This smaller, Japanese-themed map is located in the Asia Pacific region and provides a unique setting for this fast-paced mode. Resurgence features solos, duos, trios, and quads, and allows for multiple respawns as long as one of your teammates is alive. You can shorten the respawn timer by completing specific challenges like killing enemies.

A new feature called Restore Honor is introduced in Resurgence, where players drop a dog tag upon elimination. Teammates or enemies can collect these dog tags for a small cash reward and a UAV ping that marks nearby enemies and supply boxes.

1v1 Gulag

The Gulag returns to its classic 1v1 format, eliminating the Jailer tiebreaker and bringing back the Domination flag capture mechanic. The Gulag map remains the same from Season 1 but with minor adjustments to accommodate 1v1 combat. Weapon pools have been revamped, with the introduction of Assault Rifles, Submachine Guns, and Light Machine Guns. Shotguns have been removed, and players will only have access to the pistol as a secondary weapon. Cash is now scattered throughout the Gulag, giving players an opportunity to earn some extra cash before fighting.

No more Backpacks

Season 2 eliminates the need for backpacks, streamlining the looting process. Loot will now drop directly from containers, similar to how items are dispersed from Supply Boxes. The backpack system has been simplified, with all players using the same backpack throughout the match. Penalties for stacking healing items, equipment, and killstreaks have been reduced. When a player is eliminated, their loot spills out instead of being confined to a dropped backpack.

Cheaper Loadouts

To encourage players to utilize Loadouts more frequently, the price of Primary Weapons purchased from Buy Stations has been reduced. Loadout Drop Markers have also been made more affordable, allowing squads to access their full Loadouts faster. A second Loadout Drop Public Event has been added, resulting in Loadout drops occurring during the first and fifth Circles of each match.

No More Lootable Armor Vests

All players now spawn with a 3-Plate Vest, eliminating the need to loot different tier vests during matches.

DMZ Updates

Season Refresh

DMZ is undergoing a complete refresh in Season 2, including a wipe of all missions, Contraband, and Keys. However, your Insured Weapon Slots and other permanent content earned in Season 1 remain intact. Al Mazrah and Ashika Island both serve as maps for DMZ, offering diverse environments for completing missions. Al Mazrah has experienced some changes to Points of Interest (POIs), introducing fresh challenges and opportunities for exploration. Building 21 remains accessible on both maps.

Multiplayer Changes

New Game Modes

Ranked Play makes its debut in Season 2, allowing players to showcase their skills and compete for exclusive rewards. Developed in collaboration with Treyarch and the Call of Duty League, this 4v4 mode utilizes CDL-approved rules, restrictions, maps, and modes. Players must be at least level 16 to participate.

Ranked Play features Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and Control, with ranks ranging from Bronze to Top 250. Players achieving Gold or higher at the end of a season earn special rewards. Ranks are not reset each season, and all players start in Bronze without placement matches. Skill Ratings (SR) are used to determine rank progression. Players will not lose SR if they win a match while shorthanded due to a teammate disconnecting. Additionally, there is demotion protection for the first three games in a new rank division.

Besides Ranked Play, several classic game modes return in Season 2. Grid from Modern Warfare 3 is back, offering a modified Kill Confirmed experience where players must collect enemy dog tags and deposit them at one of two locations. Gun Game and Hardcore make a comeback, providing familiar gameplay experiences.

Infected, another mode from Modern Warfare 3, also returns, where a single player is randomly selected as the “infected” and must spread the infection to other players. Eliminated survivors join the Infected team, continuing until there are no survivors left or the timer expires.

New Maps

Season 2 introduces new maps to Al Mazrah, including Dome and Valderas Museum for Core game modes, Zaya Observatory and Al Malik International for Battle game modes.

New Raid

A new Raid is coming later in Season 2, expanding upon the story from Atomgrad. Price, Farah, and Gaz continue their mission, further developing the narrative of Modern Warfare 2.
