Master Attrition in Halo Infinite

What’s the Attrition Matches in Halo Infinite

Attrition is a new game mode in Halo Infinite that brings a twist to the traditional Slayer experience. The primary objective remains the same: eliminate the opposing team. However, Attrition introduces a unique element – limited lives. Each team starts with eight lives, and a life is consumed every time a player respawns. The goal is to deplete the enemy team’s lives before your team runs out. The first team to win two out of three rounds emerges victorious.

Attrition operates on a round-based system similar to Oddball. Each match consists of a best-of-three series, with the first team to secure two wins claiming victory. Unlike other modes, there’s no time limit for a round if both teams still have lives remaining. However, when both teams are out of lives, a shrinking circle similar to Battle Royale mechanics will appear, forcing players closer together until only one team survives.

How to Play Well in Attrition Matches

Teamwork and Trading Kills

Communication is key in Attrition, but even without it, sticking together as a team is crucial. Forming a cohesive unit will help you capitalize on opportunities and maximize your lives. The mode heavily emphasizes trading kills. Even if you lose a player, your team should strive to take out an enemy player in return, effectively maintaining a life balance.

Utilize the Shrinking Circle

When both teams are out of lives, a red energy field starts to shrink, dealing damage to players caught within it. While it’s best to stay out of the energy field, you can use it to your advantage. Find strategic positions that offer cover from the energy field while also providing visibility of potential enemy approaches. If your shield is fully charged, you can be more aggressive and venture into the cloud to catch opponents off guard. They are more likely to be focusing on areas outside the energy field.

Capitalize on Numerical Advantage

Attrition is a numbers game, and it’s essential to capitalize on any advantage. When your team secures a kill, especially when the enemy team is grouped together, maintain the offensive and try to eliminate the remaining enemies. A kill streak can significantly reduce the enemy team’s lives and shift the momentum in your favor. This strategy is particularly important after a player is eliminated; if you have more players on the field, aggressively press the advantage and aim for a swift victory.
