Lost Ark Gems: Basics & Acquisition

The Basics of Gems

Gems are a crucial element in enhancing your character’s capabilities within Lost Ark. By equipping gems to your skills, you directly impact their effectiveness, boosting damage output or decreasing cooldown durations. Understanding gems is paramount for progressing and optimizing your character’s build. This guide covers the core mechanics, providing you with the necessary knowledge to utilize gems effectively.

Gem’s Type

Gems in Lost Ark come in two distinct types, each serving a specific purpose. The first type focuses on amplifying skill damage, represented by a triangular shape. The second type aims to reduce the cooldown time of skills, identifiable by their circular shape. Utilizing both types strategically is essential for maximizing your combat potential. Higher tier gems will often have different names like Azure or Annihilation (damage) and Farsea or Crimson Flame (cooldown).

Unlock Gems

Access to the gem system is not available from the start. To unlock this powerful feature, you must progress through the main storyline until you complete the “The Finial” quest. This particular quest is located within Yorn and requires an item level of 600 to undertake. Once completed, you will gain the ability to start collecting and utilizing gems to enhance your skills.

Equip Gems

Once you have a gem in your inventory, equipping it is a simple process. You can either click on the gem directly from your inventory or drag and drop it into the designated Gem Tab. Each character has a limit of 11 gem slots available. Crucially, each skill can only benefit from one damage-enhancing gem and one cooldown-reducing gem at any time. Efficient gem allocation is vital for a powerful build.

Fuse Gems

To further improve your gems, you can fuse multiple gems together to increase their level and effectiveness. The maximum level for any gem is level 10, with each level granting a greater percentage increase to damage or cooldown reduction. For example, level 10 damage gems can increase the damage of a skill by 40%, while level 10 cooldown gems can reduce the cooldown by 20%. Fusion is performed in the inventory screen, using three gems of the same level to create one gem of the next level.

Refacet/Re-roll Gems

Gem refaceting, also known as re-rolling, allows you to change the skill associated with a particular gem. You can perform this process through a Gem NPC in major cities, or via your pet’s special interface. Refaceting offers the opportunity to acquire gems associated with skills that are more useful for your character’s specific build. Note that the cost of refaceting increases significantly with higher gem levels. Consider if it is worth the investment as it is random and can be expensive.

How to Get Gems

Acquiring gems is an ongoing process in Lost Ark. As you progress through the game, you’ll find multiple avenues for obtaining these valuable items. Regularly participating in various activities will ensure a consistent supply of gems, allowing you to continuously upgrade your skills and enhance your character’s power. Consistent effort will lead to noticeable improvements.

  • Chaos Dungeons: Daily Chaos Dungeons are a reliable source of gems.
  • PvP Island Events: Guild-led PvP island events can reward participants with gems.
  • Boss Rush: Completing all stages of Boss Rush provides a chance to earn gems.
  • Auction House: Buying gems from other players via the Auction House offers the fastest route to specific gems, but requires gold.
  • Field Bosses: Defeating world Field Bosses can yield gems, but you are limited to one reward per day from these encounters.

Maximizing your gem acquisition requires engaging with a variety of content and potentially utilizing the Auction House strategically.
