With a revamped schedule, a strong roster of teams, and new formats for global competitions, fans can expect an even more thrilling and competitive season than ever before.

Regional Competitions

The LCS is just one of many regional competitions taking place around the world. The Global Kickoff event, held in January, signaled the start of the professional season across various regions. Here’s a quick overview of the key regional leagues:

  • LCK – Korea
  • LPL – China
  • LEC – Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA)
  • CBLOL – Brazil
  • LLA – Latin America
  • VCS – Vietnam
  • PCS – Southern Asia and Oceania
  • LJL – Japan

These regional competitions will serve as the pathway to the two most prestigious international tournaments: the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the World Championship. This year, Riot Games has made some notable changes to the format of these global events, adding more excitement and anticipation for fans worldwide.

LCS Schedule

Riot Games has implemented a new schedule for the LCS in 2023, moving matches to Thursday and Friday evenings. This change aims to better cater to viewers’ preferences and maximize their viewing experience. Here’s a breakdown of the broadcast schedule:

Regular Season:

  • Thursdays and Fridays
  • 12 PM Pacific Time
  • Week 4: Special schedule
  • Final month of the Spring Split: Time TBD

Finals:

  • Saturday, April 8
  • Sunday, April 9

This adjusted schedule provides a dedicated space for LCS broadcasts without overlap with other regional competitions. It also reflects Riot’s commitment to attracting new audiences while retaining long-time fans.

LCS Format

The format of the LCS remains largely consistent with previous seasons. The Spring Split will feature a Group Stage with a best-of-one (BO1) elimination bracket. After 18 matches, the top six teams will advance to the Playoffs, where they will compete in a double elimination bracket featuring best-of-five (BO5) matches. The winner and runner-up of the LCS Spring Split will secure spots at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI).

What About MSI?

The 2023 Mid-Season Invitational will be held in London, England, with a new format that promises to shake up the international scene. Two additional teams will compete in MSI this year, bringing the total number of participants to eight. The tournament will feature a two-stage format:

  • Group Stage: A double elimination bracket where teams will play BO3 matches.
  • Bracket Stage: A double elimination bracket featuring BO5 matches. Five teams will advance directly to the Bracket Stage from the Group Stage.

The new MSI format promises to be more competitive and intense than ever before, with a higher emphasis on group play and a more dynamic bracket system. The tournament will be a crucial steppingstone to the World Championship, and the regional champions will be aiming to make their mark on the global stage.

With a new schedule, a dynamic format, and some of the best teams in the world competing, the 2023 LCS season promises to be a thrilling ride for League of Legends fans. Get ready for a season filled with epic battles, surprising upsets, and memorable moments.
