In the nightmare dungeons in Diablo 4, you will encounter various monsters – some are annoying, others are really dangerous. If you don’t feel like being constantly surprised by the toughest enemy, you should avoid certain dungeons. Buy Diablo 4 Gold to better prepare yourself with the gear and upgrades you need to survive these deadly encounters.
Which opponent is it?
In the Nightmare Dungeons, you might encounter a rather unpleasant enemy: the Butcher. The Butcher, better known by his original name “The Butcher”, is a boss from Diablo 1. In dungeons, he can surprise you by accident, and by the time you hear his stomping footsteps and a: “Ah, fresh meat!”, it’s too late.
Some players can only laugh tiredly at the Butcher, especially at higher levels. Other players, however, still fear the deadly opponent. This includes new players who are surprised by him, but also hardcore players who permanently lose their character when they die.
With Season 9, Blizzard has revamped the Nightmare Dungeons: There are new activities and fresh seal affixes that will remain in the game permanently. And it is precisely these affixes that give you clues about what to expect in the dungeon.
Seals announce the toughest opponents
How do I know what to expect in the dungeon?
On the seals you use to open the Nightmare Dungeons, you will find positive and negative effects that the dungeons have. For example, you can get more gold or materials, but you have to deal with “vampire” elite monsters that deal harder.
The seal with the affix “Dark Omen” reveals that something is wrong with this place and that someone or something is chasing you. And that “someone” can be the Butcher – the toughest opponent you can face in dungeons. In our case, it was also his burning variant. And sometimes Kixxarth is also part of the party – also a really lousy chunk that you may know from the Hell Tide.
On Reddit, players also report that they met the Butcher, but also Kixxarth. Individuals even met both in a nightmare dungeon. Many players praise the new affixes on the seals, especially the treasure hunt affix, which provides many treasure goblins in the dungeon.
Can I always avoid the Butcher?
Unfortunately not. Even if you deliberately dismantle Nightmare Seals with the “Dark Omen” affix and craft new ones, there is no guarantee. The Butcher can still surprise you in dungeons, as well as in the new “Escalating Nightmares”. They consist of three dungeons in a row, the affixes of which you won’t see all in advance. However, you can reduce your chances of encountering them if you avoid Dark Omen dungeons.
If you don’t fear the Butcher anyway and prefer to farm efficiently, then take a look at the positive affixes of the dungeons. The “Horadric Vault” affix, for example, ensures that a vault awaits you in the dungeon – packed with loot, mats, recipes for seasonal gems and, above all, arcana for your Horadric spells.
