Genshin Impact Version 6.5, officially titled “Augured Homecoming” and internally designated Luna VI, launched on April 8, 2026. It is one of the most content-dense patches HoYoverse has delivered in recent memory, introducing a brand-new 5-star character, two brand-new explorable areas in Mondstadt, a new field boss, a refreshed Spiral Abyss, and a full slate of time-limited events running all the way through mid-May. Whether you are a veteran Traveler looking to pull the newest meta unit or a returning player catching up after a break, version 6.5 gives you plenty of reasons to log back in.

Linnea Arrives as the New 5-Star Geo Bow Character

The headline addition in version 6.5 is Linnea, a new 5-star Geo Bow character who serves as an advisor to the Adventurers’ Guild. Described by HoYoverse as a “lively Lady Adventurer” who has brought voices from the far corners of Teyvat, Linnea hails from the region of Nod-Krai and wields a Moon Wheel rather than a conventional Vision. Her kit is built entirely around the Lunar-Crystallize reaction, making her the most powerful dedicated support for Lunar-Crystallize compositions to date.

What Makes Linnea Stand Out

Linnea’s Elemental Skill generates significant off-field Geo damage through the Lunar-Crystallize reaction, allowing her to contribute to the team even when she is not the active character. This off-field utility is precisely what Lunar-Crystallize teams have needed to push into endgame content, and her synergy with existing units like Zibai is strong enough that the current Spiral Abyss rotation in version 6.5 actively favors teams built around her.

Her signature weapon, the 5-star bow Golden Frostbound Oath, is purpose-built to maximize this playstyle. It increases her DEF stat by 16 percent and grants the Frost Fae’s Favor effect for six seconds whenever her Elemental Skill or Lunar-Crystallize attacks connect with enemies, boosting her own Geo DMG by 40 percent and Lunar-Crystallize Reaction DMG by 40 percent. Importantly, nearby party members simultaneously receive the Frost Fae’s Mischief buff, giving them a 20 percent Geo DMG bonus and a 20 percent Lunar-Crystallize Reaction DMG bonus. All of these effects trigger even when Linnea is off-field, making Golden Frostbound Oath one of the strongest support weapons in the game for the right team composition.

Linnea’s exclusive story quest, Alcyon Chapter Act I: Up! Toward Homecoming Wings, is permanently available after the version update. Players need to be at Adventure Rank 40 and must have completed Song of the Welkin Moon Act IV to unlock it.

Version 6.5 Banner Schedule: Phase 1 and Phase 2

Version 6.5 is divided into two phases, each running approximately three weeks.

Phase 1 Banners (April 8 to April 28, 2026)

Phase 1 features Linnea on her debut banner, Ya-hoho! Compendium, running alongside Chasca’s rerun on Piercing Shot’s Crimson Wake. The featured 4-star rate-ups for both banners are Illuga, Aino, and Noelle. On the weapon banner side, Linnea’s signature Golden Frostbound Oath runs alongside Chasca’s signature 5-star bow, Astral Vulture’s Crimson Plumage. Because Linnea is a brand-new character, players who miss her Phase 1 window should expect to wait a significant amount of time before her rerun banner appears.

Phase 2 Banners (April 28 to May 19, 2026)

Phase 2 brings back two popular 5-star characters: Lauma on the Moonsong of the Groves banner and Nefer on Temptation of the Crimson Sands. The featured 4-stars for Phase 2 are Jahoda, Xingqiu, and Kirara. The weapon banner for Phase 2 features Nefer’s signature 5-star catalyst Reliquary of Truth and Lauma’s signature 5-star catalyst Nightweaver’s Looking Glass.

Chronicled Wish Fontaine Banner

A Chronicled Wish banner focusing on Fontaine characters is also scheduled to appear during version 6.5 Phase 2. This banner includes 5-star characters Emilie, Clorinde, Navia, Sigewinne, and Lyney, along with their respective best-in-slot 5-star weapons: Absolution, Lumidouce Elegy, Silvershower Heatstrings, First Great Magic, and Verdict. This is a strong selection for players who missed any of these Fontaine characters during their original release windows.

New Areas: Dornman Port and the Temple of Space

One of the most exciting structural additions in version 6.5 is the opening of two brand-new explorable areas in the northern reaches of Mondstadt: Dornman Port and the Temple of Space. These regions expand the Mondstadt map in a meaningful way and serve as the primary setting for Linnea’s story quest and the Trail of Footsteps web event.

Watcher: Fallen Vigil — New Field Boss

Dornman Port is also home to the version’s new field boss, the Watcher: Fallen Vigil. Defeating this boss yields Plume of the Fallen Witcher, the primary boss drop material required to ascend Linnea. Players who pull Linnea will need to farm this boss repeatedly to raise her to maximum ascension. The new areas also introduce Etherwing Moth as a new local specialty material, which is used for Linnea’s character ascension.

All Active Events in Version 6.5

Version 6.5 launched with a rich event calendar spread across the entire patch window. Here is a breakdown of every event currently active or scheduled to go live during this update.

Where Waves Meet the Reef (April 27 to May 14, 2026)

This is the flagship event of version 6.5, and it should be every player’s top priority. Set in Nod-Krai, the event follows a storyline in which the Voynich Guild is holding a major trade expo and Nefer has reached out for help managing disputes as traders from across Teyvat gather. Players assist the 4-star character Jahoda in keeping things running smoothly while competing in a variety of combat-focused minigames.

The three minigame sub-modes are Pneumousia Barrage Countermeasure, which challenges players to use shields to counter incoming attacks; Thwack ‘n Smack Defense Bots, a tower defense mode where players protect a stronghold against Ineffa using mechanisms; and Fire Support Assault, a score-attack mode where players destroy as many enemies as possible within a time limit. Completing the event rewards players with Primogems, a Crown of Insight, Mora, Hero’s Wit, talent book materials, weapon ascension materials, and most importantly, a free playable copy of the 4-star Anemo bow character Jahoda.

Stygian Onslaught (April 15 to May 19, 2026)

The hardest endgame combat event of version 6.5 runs throughout the entire patch window. Players can earn up to 450 Primogems by pushing through its escalating enemy stages. This event is aimed at experienced players with well-built teams and rewards those who have been investing in their rosters.

To Temper Thyself and Journey Far (Running through May 18, 2026)

This ongoing training event rewards players for completing daily and weekly training goals over the course of the patch. The headline reward is a 5-star Stella Fortuna, effectively a free constellation for a 5-star character of your choice from the designated selection pool. This is a rare and highly valuable reward that any active player should make time to pursue.

Rapid Capture (Active in Version 6.5)

A filmmaking-themed event set in Fontaine, Rapid Capture asks players to match the right characters and set pieces to complete film shoots. The event rewards Primogems and is a lighter, more creative break from the combat-heavy events in the same update. Players can expect to earn 420 Primogems across all stages.

Surveying and Mapping Studies (April 10 to April 20, 2026)

This event, tied to the new Mondstadt areas, involved searching for clues and accurately marking targets on the map in collaboration with Mika from the Reconnaissance Company. Although the event window has now closed, it rewarded a range of items for successful surveying work during its run.

Trail of Footsteps Web Event (April 8 to April 21, 2026)

Trail of Footsteps was a browser-based web event celebrating the arrival of the new Mondstadt areas. Players completed tasks on the official HoYoverse event page to earn 80 Primogems, 9 Etherwing Moths, and 20,000 Mora without even launching the game client. The rewards were delivered via in-game mail upon completion.

Ley Line Overflow (May 11 to May 18, 2026)

The returning double-drop event for Ley Lines gives players the ability to earn double the rewards from both Blossoms of Wealth and Blossoms of Revelation for up to 60 Original Resin per day. This is a reliably useful event for any player looking to stock up on Mora or character experience materials at the end of the patch cycle.

Spiral Abyss and Imaginarium Theater Updates

The new Spiral Abyss season, which went live on April 16, 2026, significantly favors Lunar-Crystallize teams. All party members in the current rotation receive an Elemental Mastery increase of 200, Floor 12 First Half grants a 75 percent boost to Lunar-Crystallize DMG, and Floor 12 Second Half gives active characters a 75 percent boost to Normal and Charged Attack DMG. The monster lineup on Floors 11 and 12 has been fully refreshed to match the new modifiers.

Imaginarium Theater’s new season opens on May 1, 2026. The opening characters for the new season are Dehya, Yanfei, Kamisato Ayato, Dahlia, Kinich, and Kirara. Special Guest Stars for this season include Varka, Razor, Albedo, and Zibai. The season also introduces new Thespian Tricks for Lauma, Varesa, Chevreuse, and Dahlia, each exchangeable from NPC Wolfy.

What Is Coming Next: Version 6.6 and Beyond

HoYoverse has already begun teasing the content of Version 6.6, with early information pointing toward new characters including Nicole, Lohen, and Prune. Looking further ahead, the community is anticipating Version 7.0, which is expected to introduce the long-awaited nation of Snezhnaya. No official release date for Version 7.0 has been confirmed at the time of writing.

Should You Start Playing Genshin Impact Now?

With version 6.5 delivering one of the strongest content packages in recent updates — a genuinely impactful new character in Linnea, two new explorable areas, a stacked event calendar with a free 4-star character, and a favorable Spiral Abyss environment for Geo teams — now is an excellent time to be actively playing Genshin Impact.

The challenge for new or returning players is that building a Genshin account to a point where you can fully enjoy endgame content like Spiral Abyss and Stygian Onslaught takes a significant time investment. Leveling characters, farming artifacts, unlocking the full map, and accumulating enough primogems to pull meaningful units can take weeks or months of daily play.
