Fortnite is turning back the clock while simultaneously introducing a post-apocalyptic twist! OG Season 3 has arrived, bringing with it a wave of nostalgia and a horde of new content. One of the most exciting additions is the integration of assets from The Walking Dead universe, prominently featuring Negan’s iconic baseball bat, Lucille. This unexpected collaboration promises a unique and thrilling experience for players old and new.
This update not only throws us back to the beloved Chapter 1 Season 3 map, but allows creators to build islands using content from The Walking Dead. The combination of classic Fortnite gameplay and the grim, walker-infested world of Robert Kirkman’s creation should prove a unique creative experience.
OG Season 3: A Blast From the Past
The return of Chapter 1 Season 3 is a major highlight. Longtime players will fondly remember familiar locations like Lucky Landing. The ominous meteor hurtling towards the island adds another layer of anticipation and throwback to previous events. The meteor’s arrival is set to occur later this season. Expect a similar trajectory to what players experienced back in the day.
Adding to the nostalgia is the return of the 50v50 Limited Time Mode (LTM) as OG 50v50. This mode, running until April 14th, pits two teams of 50 players against each other in a large-scale battle. For those unfamiliar, 50v50 was the very first LTM to hit Fortnite Battle Royale back in 2017.
The Walking Dead Invades Fortnite Creative
Starting today, March 25th, creators can dive into The Walking Dead universe within Fortnite using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and Fortnite Creative. This allows for the creation of custom islands and experiences based on the popular franchise. Imagine building your own walker-infested towns and battling hordes alongside friends!
Creators can utilize new templates to access a treasure trove of Walking Dead-themed weapons, Prefabs, Galleries, and Walker NPCs. On May 16th, creators can publish their Walking Dead Universe islands via the Creator Portal, making them available for players to experience.
Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. He stated, “This collaboration with Fortnite is an incredible opportunity to expand The Walking Dead in ways we’ve never imagined.” He also mentioned, “Whether it’s Lucille smashing through hordes or the eerie presence of Walkers, I can’t wait to see where the Fortnite community’s creativity takes us.”
Here’s a breakdown of some of the Walking Dead tools available for Fortnite creators today:
- Walker NPC – Slow, unintelligent, horde enemies, Walkers are motivated by their primal drive to consume humans. These classic foes present a constant threat, forcing players to rely on strategy and resourcefulness to survive.
- Weapons and Items –
- Shiva Shotgun Ranged Weapon – The exotic, modded pump shotgun (which also triggers a Shiva tiger roar) is the perfect thing to mow down Walkers.
- Lucille Melee Weapon – Use the iconic heavy-hitting baseball bat wrapped in wire wielded by the infamous Negan (and perfect for bashing in Walkers and Survivors alike).
- Effects – Create with the new heavy linework post-processing effect, a shader that influences the overall look and feel of an island to bring the tone and visual style of The Walking Dead comics. This effect will create a dark atmosphere for any island.
These tools allow creators to immerse players in the world of The Walking Dead like never before within Fortnite.
What to Expect From The Walking Dead Integration
The addition of Walking Dead assets signifies a bold step in Fortnite’s continued evolution. It opens doors to a wealth of creative possibilities. Players can expect to see a diverse range of custom islands. These will offer survival challenges, recreations of iconic moments from the show, and entirely original storylines within the Walking Dead universe.
The integration also allows for unique gameplay mechanics. These will take inspiration from the zombie survival genre. Resources will be scarce, alliances will be fragile, and every decision could mean the difference between life and death. Get ready for a Fortnite experience unlike any other.
The Future of Fortnite Creative
The collaboration with The Walking Dead exemplifies the power of Fortnite Creative as a platform for storytelling and world-building. By providing creators with such robust tools and assets, Epic Games empowers them to craft immersive experiences that transcend the boundaries of traditional gaming.
As Fortnite continues to evolve, expect to see more collaborations with other major franchises. This will bring an influx of new assets, characters, and gameplay possibilities to the Creative mode. The only limit is the imagination of the creators themselves.
