FF16: 42 Game of Thrones Parallels

42 Times Final Fantasy 16 Is Just Game of Thrones

Warning: This article contains spoilers for both Final Fantasy 16 and Game of Thrones.

Clive Rosfield Is Basically Jon Snow

Clive, the protagonist of Final Fantasy 16, shares striking similarities with Jon Snow. Their shared traits include rebellious natures, forced roles in service, and connections to powerful, mythical creatures. Both characters are outsiders, thrust into leadership roles despite their humble beginnings. Their journeys, though set in different worlds, often echo each other, demonstrating a clear resemblance in character development and struggles.

Joshua Rosfield Is Basically Brandon Stark

Joshua, Clive’s younger brother, mirrors Brandon Stark in his initially less prominent role, only to become crucial to the narrative’s success. Like Brandon, Joshua’s importance is revealed later in the story. Furthermore, both have strong connections to mythical creatures, each linked to a significant avian symbol: Joshua to the Phoenix and Brandon to the Three-Eyed Raven. Their parallel roles in the respective narratives are remarkably similar.

Elwin and Anabella Rosfield Are Basically Ned and Catelyn Stark (plus some Lysa and Cersei)

  • Elwin Rosfield, the head of the Rosfield family, closely resembles Ned Stark in his position of authority and eventual tragic demise. His death is a pivotal event in the story’s progression.
  • Anabella, Elwin’s wife, embodies traits of Catelyn Stark, but also subtle aspects of Lysa Arryn and Cersei Lannister. Her complex personality reflects a combination of noble traits and less admirable tendencies found in those Game of Thrones characters.

Jill Warrick Is Basically Theon Greyjoy

Jill Warrick, Clive’s companion, bears significant resemblance to Theon Greyjoy. Both characters experience harrowing trials and tribulations as a result of their backgrounds. Their journeys involve a shift in allegiance, a sense of being caught between conflicting forces. Jill’s circumstances mirror Theon’s in several ways, highlighting the impact of their respective families’ political machinations.

Clive’s Companions Are a Lot Like Hodor, Daenerys, Ghost, and More

Beyond the primary characters, numerous supporting figures in Final Fantasy 16 evoke characters from Game of Thrones. Some characters share subtle similarities, while others feature more direct homages. These secondary characters, in their unique ways, contribute to the narrative’s overall thematic resonance with Game of Thrones, including characters such as Hodor, Daenerys Targaryen, and Ghost.

The World of Valisthea Is Basically Westeros

The setting of Valisthea echoes the landscapes of Westeros. Both feature continents divided by conflict, with kingdoms engaging in long-standing battles for control. Similar to the complex political alliances in Westeros, Valisthea’s map showcases distinct territories and powers struggling for supremacy. Numerous locations in Valisthea feel reminiscent of locations in Westeros, enhancing the thematic similarity between the two worlds.

The Villain Is Almost Just The Night King

While not a direct copy of the Night King, the antagonist in Final Fantasy 16 shares some thematic elements. The looming threat of an apocalyptic force vying for control mirrors the Night King’s influence in Game of Thrones. The story features a similar struggle against an immense threat, although with specific differences in the methods used and the means to combat it. Both narratives highlight the devastating consequences of such a threat, and the relentless effort to combat it.
